Isp?

Hey Guys,

I've been with Nildram for about a year, which was fine until my sister and brother came home from uni. The usage limit is 2.5gb, but we keep going over quite drastically as you can imagine!

I'm after a broadband deal that has around 15 to unlimited gb usage, but I'm not sure who to go with. Certainly by reading around Virgin Media is a no go, I'm wondering about Tiscali? They own Nildram, but they do an unlimited plan for cheaper than what i'm currently paying - around 17.99.

I'm only really willing to pay up to £20, so advice on what to go with would be great please! Personal expereicnes etcs?

Thanks, Rastaman.

try one of the entanet based suppliers such as adsl24 ,for £19.99 tons of usage allowance (30gb peak mon to friday + 300gb off peak inc all weekend) ,monthly contract, no throttling, blocking etc ,all backed up by some excellant customer support service.
beware of such as tiscali who will automatically put you on their llu service if you happen to be connected via one of their unbundled enabled exchanges, makes it expensive and more complicated if you wish to change supplier in the future.

Lobster - I can't seem to find a list of the services they offer? Could you perhaps post a link if you have the time please?

Twds - the problem with fast.co.uk for me is the cost, I really do need it to be at or under £20 if possible, to be honest it'd be better at around 18 or so! :)

Thanks for the help guys :)

i dont think you will find a reliable, fully trustworthy, high usage allowance, customer orientated, non unbundled isp for £18
better to go the extra £2 for good service and a hassle free life

Tiscali. No. Not in a million years.

As someone has already said, Entanet based ISPs seem to have a good rep, I know a few people who are happy with Sky, or you might want to try Be (www.bethere.co.uk).

With be you have a choice of up to 24mbps for £18 (which is what I'm on) or up-to 8mbps for £14, both unlimited. There is a vague FUP, but to be honest I have hammered my connection for the last couple of months and had no problems with them.

It all depends on whether your exchange has bee enable by Be - there is a checker on thier home page.

Names.co.uk also have some slower packages that allow you to get a higher GB cap (+£5 gets you 10GB extra per month on top of the package price etc.):

As akbray says, if you already have a Sky TV service then Sky Broadband can sometimes be pretty good value for money too.

another couple of Entanet resellers that get good reviews are titan at www.titan-adsl.co.uk and vivaciti at www.vivaciti.com

vivaciti rep regularly posts on these forums and will answer any questions u mave have to put to him

i emailed both customer services regarding migration and got both replies within 10 minutes at 10:30 pm at night

Woah that's one hell of a response! Thank you guys!

Unfortunately Be isn't available in my area, as I'm quite rural where I am!

I'm tempted by the home 30 plan on ADSL24,

or the same plan is available on titanadsl...

Out of the two, does anyone have any paticular reasons why to go for one or the other?

Thank you again,

Rastaman

If your going for a Enta reseller I would go for Aquiss as the owner has a proven background in the ISP industry.

allmost all the entanet resellers have the same packages and priceplans they may differ on how they charge some accept direct debit other only take credit or debit cards

best idea is phone or email them each in turn and see which one answers questions the best and most impresses u

my tops are evenly split between titan, vivaciti and aquiss

good luck

The problem with Aquiss for me is that their lowest cost broadband at 20.99 has only a 3gb peak usage limit, which doesn't really meet my requirements when we often use around 8GB a month.

Anyone any preferences between the two I stated before?

Thanks for all the help guys :)

Like Mark I would recommend Namesco I have been with them about 5 years .They have a range of deals and if you go over the GB limite they just charge you £1 a GB over . I am on a 5GB deal for £14.95 a month at 2MB Broadband speed .
check them out including their forum @ www.ndousers.com

rastaman why not click on the reviews tab at the top of this page and then search all the isp's that interest you and look at genuine users reviews titan have got a few recently giving 9 out of 10 and 10 out of ten

If you use the reviews to judge an ISP read what Mark J has said about the 10/10 ratings and personally I ingnore 10/10 as all ISPs have somewhere they could improve.

Well, you might all like to know the resoloution to this thread!

I contacted Nildram, asking for my MAC code and asking when would be the best time to move over - so I didn't end up paying two ISPS at once.

Nildram rang within about 3 hours after sending the e-mail, but I wasn't in, so they sent an email instead. The email said... wait for it...

We'll offer you unlimited broadband at 8mb, for 15.99 per month, on an anual contract. Not only that, but when I questioned what would happen after the year was up, they informed me they could do it for 13.99! Not bad! Not only that, but I had the choice between two months free and a free wireless router, or three months and no wireless router.

So yeah, I'm still on the same ISP, but with one helluva better deal! I'm paying less than what I was originaly and have about 60times more.

Nildram all the way ! :D :D :D

:) Nildram is owned by Pipex who is now owned by Tiscali, who will take total charge of all customers the end of this month when Nildram/pipex staff are made redundant and the call center moves to the phillipines.

You will be moved onto Tiscali LLU for your internet that is the only way they can do it so cheap

Indeed, that price seems extremely similar to Tiscali's own products, so while you might be paying less there is also a higher risk of lower service quality.

I'll email and ask if this is the case, however there has been no drop in service quality at all yet... so I'm fine with it at the minute :) I've never had any problems with Nildram at all and have found their customer service excellent... there can't be many ISPS with call centers based in the UK nowadays...
