ISPr Recommended ISP

I just noticed that ISPr included a recommended ISP on it's front page (currently Zen).

I'm just wondering how you decide which ISP is the recommended one? Is it automatically generated based on reviews? Number of complaints? Personal opinion of owners/moderators of ISPr?

Just curious (and I'm not trying to cast aspersions on the integrity of the owners!)

Andy

Purely personal choice based on experience, length of time the provider has been around versus maintained quality and what people are saying about them in general. It's the ISP I personally recommend to people; previously it was Eclipse but that was awhile back before the problems. I believe Nildram, Vispa and Clara.net were also recommendations long ago. I asked readers what they thought a few years back when Zen was short listed and nobody had any complaints.

If anybody wants to suggest another then please do so, although no resellers/vISP’s or anything like that, only proper established ISP’s. Recently Fast.co.uk has been a consideration, but they haven’t really been around long enough. It’s hard to find a provider that you can actually recommend and feel confident that the quality isn’t likely to change a month or so down the road.

True enough - I was with PlusNet and got a great service from them a few years back. A few months after I left...well, you know what happened...

I'm with Eclipse now (moving to Be soon), but wouldn't really go out of my way to recommend them - that said, the service I have recieved has been reasonably good.

I agree, I havent had a problem with eclipse since Ive joined them, but reading all the recent problems people have been having of them Im not sure if I could put anyone else with them.

Are you with us Mark?

Yes are you Mark...?

No he isnt it is a friendly joke, we have had dealings were we have talked in the past and I have tried to get him to join us but he hasn't.

We have been going 12 years in Aug with the same MD then as now and I know we will go at least another 12 years with the business statement "To provide the best ISP service in the UK".

3 maybe 4 years ago we had the same amount of users as Plusnet or Pipex but didnt go to the mass market and in my personal opinion it is what has kept us above the rest.

I have so very nearly signed up with Zen in the past, but the prices put me off. I think that if this Sky Broadband hadn't come along I might have signed up by now as my entanet connection was a PITA. Zen is THE only UK ISP that I can think of that has performed consistently well and has managed to avoid a vicious bitch-slapping over at adslguide. I think that they're the only ISP that I'd recommend to friends and family.

I have been with them for two years with only one occasion without the internet for a day or so, but entirely due to BT mucking something at their end. My router has never been switched off.
It affected a wide area.
I live 4.5 miles from the exchange and limited to the bottom end of the broadband experience (256k). However, in my demise, it suits my needs and a lot better than 3.5k on dialup.
At the end of the day there are many ISP's in the market all claiming to be the best and we are spoiled for choice, so a personal decision has to be made.
In the end you sink or swim.

No just people who know you get what you pay for.
Zen

UK support, well trained staff and they do get faults sorted quickly.

Fast4

Indian support, Staff training unknown, Faults seem to take a while to be sorted.

IMPO everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if some wish to pay more for what Zen offer then they do not need to have sarcastic remarks calling them rich.

It would seem less biased if you also added the cost of 8mb unlimited to your
comparisons of Zen & Fast4 IMPO

lol good idea Fast4@ £15:95 'vs' Zen@ £79:99 (business orientated I know but only unlimited package)

But I am a person who has a large distrust in the word unlimited, I do know that ISPs can limit speeds on the radius. I am also very suspicious of slow speeds as I have known others find out afterwards their ISPs had limited their speed as they were very heavy downloaders.

Perhaps you should add in contentionas Zen wil have more capacity per customer than Fast4 so better speeds. Speeds that are steady and not like a yoyo up and down.

Kits

I agree & if some can afford & are prepared to pay around £780 a year more for that privilege then thats their prerogative.
I for one could not justify or afford paying 5 times more for such luxury's.

Zen were certainly on my short list when I left Plusnet, unfortunately at the time they didn't have a package that fitted my needs, I therefore went to IDNet, which I believe is yet another long term reliable ISP, with customer care a priority, not the cheapest by any means.

In this " dog eat dog " world of ISP's, I honestly believe you get what you pay for in the longer term.

I have no problem whatsoever with Zen being the recommended first choice of the Forum.

Me either, I am not disputing ISPreview's choice or reasoning, I mean they are not biased like DSLZONE, still find it incredible they run ADSL24!

Sorry about that folks, I removed all the bickering posts between DTXT and Kits as requested in several complaints and have reminded the mods to keep some distance as this is more a section for me to chat with members unhinged. The topic has been reopened.

Oh and sorry too if some of you tried to send private message complaints only to find that my Inbox was full because of the complaints that came before, I’ve now taken appropriate action against the related individual. Now back to the topic =)..

I’m not with Zen and that’s more because there isn’t a compelling reason for me to switch providers as they’re too similar to my current package. It might be nice though if Zen offered cheaper packages, but then they run the risk of losing that well established quality for mass market appeal.

Don't overlook IDNet!! I have been with them for 12 months now, and have yet to see a complaint about them in any forum. In fact users have recently been posting spoof 'complaints' in the TB (AdslGuide) IDNet forum just to have something to talk about!!
On the contrary, the users own forum (www.idnetters.co.uk) is always full of people praising the service they have received, especially customer service, which is exceptional. :)

And yes, I am just a satisfied user.:D
