James Burke's - Connections

Is he still alive?

I hope so, a great presenter of science programmes when I was a nipper. Its a shame he's been left on the shelf, but then that's science on TV, hidden by the cookery books, reality magazines and light craputainment.

Let's start a campaign to bring him back.

Great idea, let's have a reality show with just the best science programme presenters and scientists solving the worlds problems.

With tasks such as cooking with zero energy consumption and make your own candles. A sure fire winner!

Bet the BBC never do it.

According to Wikipedia he is still alive ... :)

He has a book coming out, this year, called "American Connections" on July 4. I agree with you about science on the BBC. They killed off Tomorrow's World and even Horizon has been dumbed down IMHO. No doubt The Sky at Night is next in their sights once Patrick shuffles off this mortal coil. :(

Good to hear he is still alive. Looked at the Wikipedia article, they seem to have missed out that he has, or at least had, a photographic memory. How can the TV companies allow such great minds to drift out of television. Do they not realise they are deminished by it.

I usually record Horizon, watch the first five minutes then skip to the last 10, best way, nothing lost.

I do wish there was some serious science back on TV, but it seems the media is full of media types these days, you really need deep science knowledge to be able to create good science programmes and its just not there any more.

May Sir Patrick Moore continue for another 50 years if he wants and is able. He embodies the philosophy that its the contents that come first, as it should always be.
