Just got an email from Zen about fibre - how long until I can get FTTP?

I received an email this week from Zen:

Changes to UK phone and broadband network

We would like to make you aware of upcoming changes to the UK’s phone and broadband infrastructure. Openreach, the entity that builds and runs this network, is making changes to the infrastructure that carries your internet and landline connection. This is a more modern, reliable way to provide internet connectivity. As part of this modernisation, Openreach will soon be retiring the copper wires over which your landline and broadband currently run.

Any idea how long it typically takes before I can order?

The answer to that would be the same as 'how long is a piece of string'.

It's likely to depend on what works are needed to install the cables.

I'd suggest you take a look at this site: https://bidb.uk/ - it will give you an idea of any work schedule/planning applications for your location.

FWIW, when the work was completed in my area it took about a month afterwards for FTTP to be installed. I'm also with Zen and I don't know how long it might take in other areas, good luck and I hope it's not too long for you.

It took a few years for me, between diggers in the ground outside my house (which was back in the early stages of the COVID lockdown, spring 2020) and availability to order (which happened a couple of months ago).

I'm probably a "special" case though as my area was FibreNation, who dug the streets and put the fibre down but then sold out to CityFibre, who seem to have waited a number of years but have now finished the job. I even received "you can now order fibre" marketing bumf from TalkTalk (who were FibreNation's partner) back in 2020 but nothing came of any of it, I tried to order and the order failed.

It's just my luck that just as CityFibre finally finish the rollout, and Zen start to pester me to make the switch, I'm moving and can't commit to a fresh 18-month contract! However, unlike where I live now, my new area is fully Openreach fibre and there's a stop sell for *DSL, so I'll be full fibre from day one there.

Have you checked their website if you can get FTTP already? For me it took about 5 weeks from it being available from Openreach to it being installed.
I went from a VM 350 to the 1000/100 Zen FTTP it really is worlds apart
