Just signed up for internet - go live 26th May?!?!

I'm moving house and need a decent internet connection so called Zen to set up the 300Mbit FTTP. 4 weeks they told me on the phone, ok no problem, I can use tethering for that long.
... then I get the email through a few hours later, appointment is set for the 26th May.. 10 weeks.

Is this going to be the case with any ISP using Openreach? Honestly thinking of just cancelling the order and using an FTTC service from a cheaper provider.

That will screw everything over completely then :). Get yourself a mobile hotspot and a slice of cheap unlimited data. Three are doing a deal at the moment where you can get unlimited data and a 4g+ mifi on a 1 month contract for £25/mth. https://store.three.co.uk/view/content/mbasket?intid=3blog_unlimited-data-upgrades

Hope this helps and :)

Unfortunately I’m just over half way through a mobile phone contract with Three and their service is abysmal. If I ever need to make an important call I have to use my work phone (Vodafone) because Three is almost guaranteed to drop the call. Data speeds over 4G are < 1Mbit/s.
I’ve just found out about an ISP called Cuckoo that’ll provide me with monthly rolling FTTC from next week until the OR engineer sorts out the Zen connection in May.

Yes. It's not in Zen's interest to delay a new customer getting a connection, so this will be coming from Openreach's side. What you have to remember is that we're only today starting to come, very slowly, out of another national lockdown and that did delay a lot of FTTP installs because those require an engineer to enter your home. As a result the operator will now have a backlog of orders to clear and that will inevitably cause some delays.

There were some exceptions made for existing in-flight orders (pre-announcement) and those needed by key workers, such as NHS staff etc. But the main restrictions are now due to end next Monday.

I actually called Zen and they've managed to knock 3 weeks off the date and will continue checking for cancellations over the next few days to see if they can get me anything sooner, as my partner accesses online education.
I'm impressed with the customer service already; I'm used to waiting on hold for an hour to speak to someone clueless and useless in India.
