Just the Router now then? Choices choices?

The mobile is connected to NR5103E as Wifi
May have to check the laptop's wifi settings and see what it's connected to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz but I wouldn't expect such a drop from the laptop even if it's connected to 2.4 GHz and you are close to the router.

Other suggestions, seperate the SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 and connect the laptop to just 5. Check with fast.com as well.

Laptop now 284mb?

You can see 2.4 GHz wifi is 286 Mbps, force the laptop to 5GHz wifi and it should see improved speeds.

Hi Mick2me. You need to split your Wifi networks so you have seperate SSIDs - one for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz and then just connect your device to 5ghz.

I have called my two networks Goodwood2.4ghz and Goodwood5ghz so it's easy to select.

To do this, on the modem webpage go to NETWORK SETTING - WIRELESS - GENERAL and then un-tick the Keep the same settings for 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks option.

Hope this helps

I did that, logged back to virgin then re logged on to Three router. I did not give me a choice of 5 or 2.4. but it did log on to 5Ghz.

Before that I had switched off 2.4 to ensure everything connected to 5.
Now with the modem on the upstairs windowsill facing the mast I get 630mbs on the mobile. On the laptop I can only get 237 down and 151 up?

From the properties of the Three modem connection on the laptop I see Wi-Fi 5.
Maybe this make the difference?

I have put the Zyxel Air app on the mobile phone but cant log in?
Under advanced connection it requests IP (192.168.1.1?)
and HTTPS Port, where do I find that?

HTTPS Port will either be 80, or 443, I believe, and if it still doesn't work then you will have to use three app, as I don't think Zyxel apps work with three routers

I
Thanks, had tried 443 and 9443, 80 does not work either.
I understand the app gives you the actual signal strength as you move the router?
If it's 3 brand, use the My3 app and press Broadband under login.
It's the same app, just branded.

Thanks Peteb999

Is the laptop as close to the router? Another thing would be try playing with the network channels. You can get apps that can tell you the optimum channel etc, there may be interference from other devices or local residents. Bog standard things as well like checking for driver updates etc.

The router supports WiFi 6 but your laptop might be limited to WiFi 5?

Thanks Peteb999

Your laptop only supports 1x1 wifi 5, so it can only use 1 antenna for sending/receiving data. Your phone likely supports 2x2, so it can use 2 antennae to send/receive, doubling the possible speed. Your phone likely has wifi 6 as well, for a slight extra speed boost. The phone's speed is probably what you're getting from the tower, since 2x2 wifi 6 can easily go over 600mbps down (I've tested up to 900ish down on a gigabit connection)

Edit:
The speed you're getting on your laptop now is probably the max you're getting with the hardware you have. The theoretical max of 1x1 wifi 5 is 433mbps, but you will essentially never get a speed like this. Around 250-300 max is more accurate, and you're already almost there anyway. Maybe an external wifi dongle will get you closer to your router's max, but if you need the speed, use ethernet, otherwise you'll probably be fine with the current speed. For comparison, a 2x2 wifi 6 device has a 1200mbps theoretical max, and around 900mbps real-world max.
