A friend asked me to help with her PC dial-up problem and, despite the fact I have a Mac and broadband, I tried (unsuccessfully).
Her problem is that whenever she tries to check mail or even delete mail in Outlook Express, she loses connection and a box pops up saying it's connecting to the Internet. She also loses connection when trying to go to a new site with Internet Explorer, but this isn't so consistent.
I've tried dialling to another ISP and unchecking the 'connect automatically' button and tomorrow I'm going to try with an external modem, but I'm out of my depth. Can anyone help me?
Her computer is a 5-year old Hewlett-Packard running (I think) Windows 98 and she uses Wanadoo pay per minute.
