just wondered if anyone here has replaced their kindle and gone through the process of transferring their books from the old to new.

lm assuming its relatively simple going by what lve seen here though its somewhat vague lm curious if it will retain what lve read and what l havent as long as my positions in my current book "especially ones that were sent to my kindle rather than purchased" as lm friends with one of my current favorite authors and wantt to be sure my progress will be saved on those books as well, as retaining the collections as l have quite a few books.

I have never had a kindle what is the point when a laptop can handle it as easily?
l personally dont prefer to look at a computer screen all the time, gets kinda harsh on the eyes, whereas looking at a kindle is more akin to reading an actual book that doesnt glare back at you :p lve had a kindle for around 5 years and its saved me quite a bit of money and space as l used to buy physical books, plus l read quite a bit these days if l did it all on the laptop ld never turn it off (and given l connect to a tv as well gotta save energy somehow) plus ld also be limited in where l could read as l dont want to be limited to areas near power outlets.

I upgraded mine from an ancient 5th gen that the battery gave out in to a 2020 paperwhite. Just singed into my Amazon account and it downloads them as you read your book.

thankfully my collections were intact, though it was a bit tedious to download one at a time as "deliver to kindle" on the web management only worked on amazon purchased books and the vast majority were purchased elsewhere. still lm happier how well the paperwhite reads last time l read for 3hour it left my kindle at 50% battery only used 2% this time :p pretty sure l had a 5th gen as well.

I have most of my books purchased from Amazon, however, some of my send to Kindle books appeared too. Wonder how they got on there. If your old one was black with buttons at the bottom it is a 5th gen. If it is grey with buttons on the bottom it is a 4th gen.

the books did appear, it was more the fact l wanted them on the kindle than just on thew cloud, would have been a pain if l hadnt downloaded them and left for a walk to read in the park without a connection to download the actual content of the book, kindle device management worked well enough downloading books purchased from amazon but l had to download each book individually from the kindle itself that weren't purchased but sent to the klindle.

Not very easy to pop a laptop in your pocket!
exactly :) plus theres the whole issue of staring at a monitor for hours reading text.. ld get headaches lol.
