Labour Ban Pasturised Milk !!

Officials at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs have made a serious proposal that consumers switch to UHT (Ultra-High Temperature or Ultra-Heat Treated) milk to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It is part of a government strategy to ensure that some 90 per cent of milk on sale will not require refrigeration by 2020. That most shoppers would not even know where to find UHT milk in shops (the cartons are discreetly placed near baking ingredients) does not seem to have deterred government strategists. The move would mean a big shift from fresh-milk consumption to long life. In Britain 93 per cent of milk sold is fresh. UHT, powdered milk and baby milk make up the rest of the market.

The plan is set out in a government paper, seen by The Times, that was sent out last month to farmers’ leaders and the dairy industry. The “milk road map” is intended to help a dairy industry committee set up to work out the carbon footprint for milk and dairy products and to identify ways of reducing that footprint.

As most people know, and quoting a character from Father Ted, UHT tastes like **** . There is no way the British public are going to have their cups of tea destroyed by Labour. Somebody should start a petition on the government web site !

Why do they insist on tellingus what we want without first asking us... Are we not the people that put them in power so we can remove them!! At the next genral election.

It is like the stuped EU Germany lost the war but the government are surrendering the peace to them.

Im half tempted to think this is a hoax is so daft.

I can tell them now emissions in other areas would rise, as people would no longer have cereal for breakfast, and thats one of the most healthy things you can have.

With the growing obesity problem, putting many people onto toast, or worse wouldnt help.

And also what about the huge drop in demand for milk, further helping the farmers?

But UHT is so unlike milk its unreal.

Are we sure this isnt a hoax?

Yes, I know it sounds like something out of "Yes, Minister". I heard a mention of it on News 24, and it's in the Times as well so I'm guessing that it is being considered. I'd imagine the tabloids will have a field day with it so I'm betting Labour will soon have a change of mind.

Next they'll be banning baked beans because of the emissions they cause!

I'm with Old Dude, this loks so daft it looks like a hoax. Which makes me think it might actually be for real.....

Maybe it's from the same p[eople who tried to ban bananas that were'nt curved enough a few years back

Maybe they do this sort of stupid stuff to take the bigger issues out of the lime light!

New Scottish kerb-crawling law comes into force:

A new law to tackle kerb-crawlers comes into force in Scotland on Monday, with drivers found cruising streets for prostitutes facing a 1,000 pound fine.

Exactly!!

;P But seriously, i do agree and i have no doubt whatsoever that there are a stock of bizarre gov "plans" ready to be leaked to a compliant/exclusive bloodseeking media as needed to distract from something else that they would rather we didnt focus on... Ill not get into the whole UK support for attacking Iran here... :s

maybe it was a smoke screen to hide the EU issues where President Pottering says we will surrender more powers to the EU. Hope Bownie remember this part needs a referendum before he can.. The same one french ppl rejected.. WE are looking at them taking us over everything will go if he agress Human rights, foreign policy, tax and benefits.. As I said Germany lost the war but stealing it all in peace.

Regardless of which party has been in power, I'd have guessed they'd rather powered milk because they've been milking us dry for years.

I feel i must stand up for UHT in the face of this adversity!

I actually like the taste of UHT milk....IF and only if it is chilled. If so, it is great on cereal and no bother in a smoothie. It reminds of me family holidays in France as a kid.

And come on... no more finding and throwin out pints of fresh milk left to turn into smelly science experiments!

Its well mingin' in a cup of tea though.

this is a load of bull, if they try this then l for one will express my distaste in both the UHT milk and the government... show me the way to the petition to sign and l will sign it.

on a side note UHT milk makes me violently sick, anything sterilised seems to wreak havok on my stoumch and well lets just say ld need a bucket, if its not cows milk (pasteurized or directly from the tank after they are milk l wont touch it)

Hi,

Only our Government could come up with a crack-pot idea like this. When there are more serious issues that need urgent attention. Words fail me.

I hate UHT milk, it taste is foul and no way is tea drinkable or cereal eddible.

Bah.

Paul.

Before I make up my mind one way or another on this milk, I think I'll wait until I see a full report rather than rely on a condensed version in the newspapers.

Here's what "Father Ted" had to say about UHT -

hehe good find, i remember that ep now heh.

On a tangent now..but.. do you not think it odd that we are the only species that drinks milk past childhood...? Not only that but we drink other species milk... Milk is supposed to be simply a rich nutrition from mother to child including passing on immunities (hence breast is best. oh yes indeedy)

Personally, after seeing how some milking cows are kept and the process of them basically given hormones to artificially increase milk production, coupled with the potential health detriments of drinking cows milk (parkinsons, cancers), i only use cows milk in tea, whereas i used to drink it by the glass.

I guess lactose intolerance and the natural altering of our bodily internal fuctionings would suggest to me also that its not 'natural' to keep drinking milk after infancy.

Lactose intolerance

Lactose, the disaccharide sugar component of all mammal, milk must be cleaved in the small intestine by the enzyme lactase in order for it's constituents (galactose and glucose) to be absorbed.

The production of this enzyme declines significantly after weaning in all mammals including humans (except for most northern westerners and a few other ethnic groups, lactase decline occurs after weaning, sometime between the ages of two and five).

Once lactase levels have dropped, consumption of even minute amounts of dairy can cause diarrhea, intestinal gas, cramps and bloating, as the undigested lactose travels through the gastrointestinal tract and serves as nourishment for intestinal microflora who excrete gas.

Isn't it interesting that in the main its northern westerners who tend not to be just as intolerant..

damnit i meant to only say Bob's father ted vid was good :s

And theres the problem!

We all know how our friends across the pond in England love tea! I mean you can just imagine the uproar if this goes through!

Labour really love alienating the man on the street to be fair, so it comes as no surprise.
