5G mobile rollout faces delays across UK due to disputes over masts
The UK already lags behind Europe and G7 nations on mobile internet speeds
That ought bring in some revenue too for the councils who are open to having infrastructure on council owned buildings.Looks good for nationally owned infrastructure though.
Awaiting government to green light all council buildings for network masts.
To add to my post by fitting 5G infrastructure to bus stops, it gives local councils and bus operators the chance to provide real time journey information including information showing next 3 buses and how long in mins before the bus arrives there.
The real time info would be using GPS as well so as a example of the bus stop in a town centre says next bus due 3 mins, 3nd bus due 10 mins, 3rd bus due 20 mins that the bus is actually that far away at that point and not running a static system where it just says next bus is due in 3 mins even if it's 10 mins away.
Said buses would get using 5G and GPS to have a onboard next stop is system, some companies already have this but it ought be standard.
Birmingham and National Express do this very well and it would make bus travel more accessible.
If you take Luton, some bus stops have real time info showing bus information, weather and BBC news while others have nothing, some have a really basic pole mounted real time information system while others have a eye level mounted real time information system with three buttons which shows preset information.
As to council buildings and other areas of high public footfall, this is revenue that is easily deliverable especially if councils green light public parks, public squares, libraries, swimming pools, the high street etc, all the council would need in my view is to have the people behind the London Underground infrastructure get it ready and have the operators use said infrastructure.
By green lighting this, maybe just maybe we have a infrastructure network to be proud of and not a hotch potch network.
I used bus times.org map as that shows all the buses in the area.Stagecoach buses do this in Scotland too via 4G, it works great, shows you where the bus is on the app and if it's late or whatever.
Also shows on displays at bus stops.![]()
Yes it sure is, Glasgow and Edinburgh live bus timetables are second to none, they always impress me, and as you say, a fantastic help if you don't know the area.It is reassuring to have real time info especially if it's a area you're not familiar wiwith.
Stagecoach's app is god awful imo anywaysView attachment 17079

The app is very handy when leaving the house to see where the bus is, can I take my time or do have to do a Daley Thompson?.![]()

We don't have any real-time information on bus stops at all until you leave the city and head towards the next town![]()
I've had buses disappear off the app whilst waiting for the 94 and I've also had the app lead me to the wrong bus beforeI have to disagree with you about the Stagecoach app, I use it often on my travels and it's been extremely accurate and helpful with its bus positions and times.![]()
Never had any problems like that at all so far, there are loads of bus companies serving Scotland so you have to use their own apps for their services, and honestly not had any problems with any of them so far.I've had buses disappear off the app whilst waiting for the 94 and I've also had the app lead me to the wrong bus before
