Lebara port in - iMessage no longer working on ported over number

Hi all,

Ported my number over to Lebara today. Had a text and email saying port in completed, but iMessage will not activate on my ported in number.

Done the usual network settings reset, logging in and out of my Apple ID etc but it will not activate.

Apple support say it may be that the number hasn’t fully ported over yet and have advised to wait 24 hours.

Has anyone else had issues with iMessage when porting over?

Thank you

Firstly switch off iMessage. Then go into your Apple ID settings (not the iMessage settings) and then make sure your correct number is added under your personal details.

You can then restart the phone, switch on iMessage and it should pick up the correct number. If not, just double check the account settings and make sure any incorrect numbers are removed.

Hope this helps. It's to do with the phone still recognising the temporary number before porting in so sometimes you need to force it to pick up the right one.

Thanks for the reply. The number in the field is the correct number which has been ported over. All I get is a spinny wheel next to the number when trying to activate iMessage.

Wait 24 hours (at least)

Ports cause weird things with RCS or iMessage

I’ve had a similar issue that lasted over 2 weeks when moving my number to Vodafone. Never had the issue before when moving numbers and all settings were correct. May not be related but nothing I did including contacting apple support was able to fix it.
In the end I requested a replacement sim and it instantly activated correctly with the new sim.

Thanks for the this. Lebara use Vodafone so this issue might apply to me. I’ve contacted Apple support and they say it should work alongside Lebara who told me to do the usual reset network settings etc.

I’ll look into getting a replacement SIM if it doesn’t work in the next day or so.

Spoken with Apple support who have been excellent. They say that there is a restriction on my Lebara number. Apple also say that international texts need to be enabled for the activation to work. Lebara say I can only send international texts if I top up my account with £5.
I have a replacement SIM on the way - if that fails to sort the issue looks like I will have no choice but to port out.

That doesn’t feel right, you don’t need to be able to send a message to activate iMessage or FaceTime.

iMessage sends an SMS in the background in order to activate.

However they use a UK number so it should work with included messages.

I know it causes issues in Ireland as they use the UK number for activation there as well which causes International SMS charges. It's actually specifically called out on some carrier's websites like 48.ie in this post here. So ridiculously popping up to Northern Ireland would make activation free.

It should fix it. I don't think you have been patient enough, the issue is likely after a port it can take several days for an existing SIM to fully pick up a "new" number after the port. Your incoming/outgoing SMS/calls will be correct but the phone still thinks the number is different. This is true of any network, not just Lebara. However the new SIM should come with the correct (ported) number assigned so will fix it anyway.

Porting out will result in the same issue until your new network fully propogates the correct, ported number. It is not a Lebara issue.

Honestly iMessage activation uses a stupid system, they should use an incoming message like every app WhatsApp etc.

The same issue happened to me when I ported from Lyca to Spusu last week. Rebooting or switching on/off FaceTime/iMessage did not solve the issue.
Finally, I fixed it by resetting iOS's network settings.

Thanks. What do you think of Spusu? I was with them for a while but the whole set seemed a ‘work in progress’ to me.

New SIM has arrived. Lebara have activated it but still have the same issue. Would it be best if I port out of Lebara? Thinking of moving to Vodafone. Someone has mentioned I would still not be able to use iMessage. How can this be sorted out?
Thanks

No

Be patient. Turn it off for a week and then try again, do not be tempted to turn it back on.

I’m having the exact same issue with my daughter’s sim. Ported to lebara, iMessage/FaceTime wouldn’t activate, got a new sim sent out and activated, so far it’s behaving the same.

Did you have any luck?

Currently have iMessage deactivated. A member of the forum has recommended disabling iMessage and Facetime for a week and then trying. Due to switch it on Wednesday. Will update then.

I’m thinking of leaving Lebara as the customer service director who told me to email him due to me writing a bad trustpilot review hasn’t had the decency to pass this on as I’ve heard nothing back from the company.

Just wondered how this went today.

I’m at the end of my tether with the company. I’ve lodge an official complaint but haven’t heard anything. Have got a pac code, retentions team promised I would hear back from complaint too. Will be leaving if it’s not fixed very soon!

Hi,

It failed to work unfortunately. I’m going to have to port out. I requested my pac via 65075 and I’ve been amazed at how aggressive Lebara have been! They have been phoning me regularly trying to get me to stay. No resolution of the issue though (and the signal is really poor at my work) so it will work out for the best if I port out.

It’ll be interesting to see if it works when my number gets ported as that would suggest some sort of Lebara technical glitch.

Similar here I shouted at the retention team, never heard from the complaints team.

Lebara great until there’s a problem. Then customer service and s shocking!

Totally agree. It works well when there are no issues, but when they occur, the only way to get things sorted is to leave. I’ve decided to leave Lebara. Had enough of the MVNOs who ‘piggyback’ and have gone to a full service mobile network.
