Lebara seems to need 3G to activate SIM

Hi,
I recently bought a Lebara SIM direct from Lebara and it refused to activate. I tried it in 3 phones including a phone that already worked on Lebara. They sent a replacement which also refused to activate. After unsuccessful web chat with Lebara I got thinking if this could be related to turn off of 3G in my area in Feb this year. Therefore, I switched the phone to 2G and it instantly activated. I then switch it to 4G/5G and all works fine. It just wouldn't activate in 4G mode.
Have I missed something or is this a genuine issue, albeit with a workaround?

Interesting spot. I take it your phone had been set to a '4G/5G only' mode when the SIM wouldn't activate? If so, I'd guess this wouldn't really be an issue for most people, as I suspect most will just have their phone set to automatically select the network type, and it would therefore connect to 3G (or 2G, in areas where 3G is turned off) automatically?

Is this something to do with Lebara/Vdoafone/'s weird IMS activation system?
Your SIM won't work on VoLTE or WiFi Voice for the first week of service. Not sure why it's done like this, But it is.

I'm fairly sure I had automatic network selection for the network type and also tried a couple of time to manually select network. When I activated a Lebara SIM last year, it just activated straight away. Seems strange that a manual workaround is required as that will generate a lot of support calls at some point unless they update the activation process (unless I was just unlucky).
