Lebara VoLTE/VoWiFi for Google Pixel

I might have found a bug. The preferred network options are 4g or 3g, 5g is no longer there and it was previously. If I enter *#*#4636#*#* I can change the preferred network to NR for 5g and then back in settings it suggests 5g preferred but it's still not an option that shows to be selected, anyone else experience this?

On my Pixel 8 5G, the preferred network options remain 3G, 4G, 5G — all three options are selectable, and 5G is selected. And I can also confirm that WiFi calling now works, after the system update. 🎉 (I did the test of turning on WiFi while in airplane mode, so the mobile signal is off but WiFi is on, and I successfully placed a phone call!)

Interesting, I'm not in a 5g area right now so I'm wondering if that's why it's not in my recommended list. I'll check again when I'm in 5g coverage area to see if it appears in my settings, but I'm happy enough that I can enable it anyway in the diagnostic menu.

That won't be why, is Lebara set as your primary data SIM?

Yes, I only have one SIM anyway, I've tried a couple of reboots, on my pixel 6 it definitely only lets me pick 3 or 4g but I can select the NR option in diagnostics and it then says preferred network type is 5g in settings, but if I try to change this I can only see 3 or 4. On the screenshot I've attached you'll see the options then in the background you can see 5g is enabled but only because I've selected it from diagnostics.

Same here. PIxel 7 with Lebara sim and BNEsim (inactive currently).

Chosen 5G as preferred but only connects to 4G !

Any ideas? The same sim works on 5G in a different Xiaomi handset.

Getting frustrated.

@sufferingsam @BarrieBear I'd recommend sending feedback in the settings -about phone section to say 5g has gone as the preferred network following June update.

As a workaround for now, have you both tried going to phone diagnostics menu *#*#4636#*#* and selected the mode as NR/LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA? This updated mine and now shows according to my screenshot a couple of posts above, only thing is I've still not been able to test a 5g call (which is NR setting).

NR/LTE should suffice in most cases, especially if you don't want the EDGE issue.

5G calling isn't available for any UK network yet by the way.

Not seen this update yet. As a side note, I received no 5G signal on my Xiaomi device with Lebara when in a 5G city and I did have the option to select 5G, and it was on to use. Will try again later in the week when I'm visiting another area that I know has Vodafone 5G.

I'm using Lebara on a pixel 6 with no 5g signal within range. I can change the preferred network to NR/LTE/etc on the 4636 settings menu, but the setting changes back within a minute or so.

Never seen that happen, I have a 6 Pro on O2 and I have it set to NR/LTE (I'd set it to NR only but it doesn't help me map NR unfortunately, don't exactly lose signal on my SIM)

(edit: it happens to me when setting a SIM to NR only in my experience but not any other settings)

Try changing it to NR only, on mine if I do that then come out and go back into 4636 menu it then changes to the NR/LTE... etc. then stays on that.

Thanks, that seems to have worked. It went to NR/LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA and has stayed there, at least for now. Preferred network type in the main settings menu is "5g (recommended)" which is not available on the pop up menu. Clearly something is not quite right with the latest android update. But it looks like the volte/voWiFi issue is improved.

I've also just turned off 2g as good practice following the smashing story https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...-over-illegal-uk-phone-mast-and-smishing.html and it hasn't caused any problems with the other settings (I appreciate this alone won't stop smithing but may go some way to mitigate, others opinions absolutely welcome if you have a view).
afaik 4G is vulnerable to attacks, nothing is fully secure, just some things take longer to crack

I'd turn off 2G anyways just to avoid the EDGE issue, but ideally you should just lock to NR/LTE regardless of what network you're using. Means O2 doesn't tend to drop to 3G 900 as often since there's a 4G signal.

I recently discovered this forum while looking for solutions to my lack of VoWiFi on my Pixel 6a and 7a. The recent update has added it so that's great but the 6a has the 5g setting problem that I've now tweaked on using the diagnostic menu as suggested here, so thanks.

I've drawn a blank searching for 2g EDGE issue though. What is this? A pointer or explanation is welcome....

Basically, Vodafone has had an annoying problem since the 3G switchoff where people are spending more time on 2G (even in good 4G/5G coverage areas).

Turning off 2G allows you to avoid dropping down to it (which is practically unusable for data) and it adds some extra security to your device given that 2G is quite insecure.

Ah.,. Ok I haven't noticed this with my Lebara SIM, but useful to know. Thanks.
