Less than dialup speeds with Max. Help!

I have had broadband for 2 yrs now, first with BT now with the dreaded Tiscali. I didnt know how bad Tiscali were till recently. I have lately been upgraded to 8M from 2M although my 2M download speeds have been only in the range of 0kbps to 150kbps at anytime , day or night, even at 3 in the morning. I have received another new modem (speedtouch) from them, but to no avail. I have my own BT Voyager 2100 router and even that does not improve my speeds. They, Tiscali have apparently tested my line and said everything is fine with that. There is only one main phone socket in the house with a filter on it direct to router. I have tested my speeds with all major speed tests online and get the same results with all of them.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?????

Are there any ways of getting this thing sorted out as I'm now at the end of my tether and I still have 6mths to run on my contract with Tiscali.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can give.

Thanks. Have done test on adslguide and here is results at this moment:

Results from broadband speed test recorded on Thursday, 07 September 2006, 00:26.

Your Connection
Speed Test Results

Downstream 139.6 Kbps ( = 0.1 Mbps )
Upstream 370.0 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )

---------------------

On ISPr I got 208.10kbps 10mins ago which is very high for a change, but even so it should be above that surely to goodness.

Cheers

Your B-RAS profile is stuck or you have synced up at 160k on the downstream over the last 3 days if you havent then it is a stuck BRAS either of which can be logged as a fault under a lower theshold breach.

Thanks Man of means

Sorry but do I now report it to Tiscali or BT, my router/modem says I'm connected at 7.4M. Is that the sync speed? I dont know all the tech terms sorry. How do I get it to re-sync?

I apologize for being a bit uniformed but am learning fast thanks to Tiscali

Thanks again

I just done another speed test using ISPr and this is the result, its laughable

Your current bandwidth reading is:

9.40kbps

This means you can download at 1.18 KB/sec. from our servers.

9.4 kbps YOU
56 kbps Dialup (v.90/v.92)
128 kbps Dual Channel ISDN
512 kbps Broadband 512Kbps
1000 kbps Broadband 1Mbps
2000 kbps Broadband 2Mbps
4000 kbps Broadband 4Mbps
8000 kbps Broadband 8Mbps

Could anyone put up with this for £17.99/mth?

Cheers

It sounds as though the dlm process that is to determine your msr (maximum stable rate) and ftr (frault threshold) is not running properly, they should both be set within 10 days of your router/modem syncing with dsl max.

BT are aware of problems with the dlm (dynamic line management) failing. What is recommended is to try a few reboots of your hardware to force resyncs, somtimes this can start the dlm process. This is where the internet myth of rebooting your router will mean you get fast speeds came from!

BT are working on a new speedtester that shows you what profile you will be on, for people that I know who are stuck at 2mb throughput it shows that they are on a profile of 2mb. So maybe you will get the same, PM me and I will send you the link. It is still being trialled and ISP's can only give it out when really needed as Bt dont want to overload it.

Try these things and if you see no improvement then contact your isp and ask them to run a woosh test (bt diagnostic tool) to sse if they can see if you have an msr and ftr figure. It is down to your ISP to communicate with BT wholesale about their customers issues, so that is who you need to speak to.

If you need any more advice, feel free to PM me

That is not strictly true.

****

The FTR is the figure that your router/modem syncs on the downstream, it is not throughput related. Meaning that if your ftr is 1207kbps and your router is synced at 1534kbps, then you cannot raise a fault based on your ftr even if your throughput is poor.

And for BT to accept a fault based on the ftr, your router needs to sync below it for 8hrs during 7 days.

Throughput is a common issue, but it is usually related to profile issues. I'm sure it will get sorted, but from my experience BT faults no less that I do on ADSL Max. Which is worrying.

What is your router currently synced at??

Hi

Its syncing at 8096. Its a BT Voyager 2100. Thanks for advice, I need all the help and advice I can get.

Thanks

The MSR is set to te lowest sync rate you had over the 10 day training period and the FTR is the profile nearest to 30% below that.

You are able to log a fault on a LTB if it synced for like you have said for 8 hours in a 7 day time period under the FTR or if it has synced at 160k at any one time.

The 2100 should be fine its a router.

Ok, I think we need to clarify something. When describing issues with MAX we need to do it with some detail.

Sync rate and throughput are two completely things. The throughput should be 0.5mbps lower than your sync rate.

In order to raise a fault based on the sync rate your router will need to be synced as already discussed lower than the ftr, for 8 hrs during 1 week. Or if your sync rate is lower than 288kbps, experience a stupid amount of disconnections say every 5-10mins or you have no service at all.

We are talking about you probably being on the wrong profile, and therefore not getting the throughput that is related to your sync rate. So the sync rate is not the issue here.

Am I making sense here, I dont want to confuse you. I also do consider myself to be a little bit of an expert on dsl max, purely because I went to BT seminar on it and have been training people. :D

Ok, then the FTR rule here does not apply. It is probably a profile issue.

Also how old is the modem? Have you updated the drivers??

The router is 18mths old and I have just updated the firmware but to no avail. The sync rate if I'm not mistaken is 100Mbps as its connected via ethernet, throughput is download speeds yes?
It is connected to exchange at around 8096kbps. What is that then called?
