liberty BB

Congratulations, it is good to hear that Liberty BB are taking on new subscribers. It would be nice to hear that they were extending their coverage as well.

If your signal is borderline in the tests, pushing the dish higher up the pole can really help the signal. If they're mounting it on your chimney pot, then you're probably stuck with the result.

When I was 1st tested, the signal strength was around 104/105. After a major storm, my reception rate dropped to that of ISDN for around a week and they came back again. The dish was still perfectly aligned, but now had a signal of around 95 i.e. it would fail the LOS test. They pushed it as far as they could up the aerial pole (another 2 feet) and the strength went up to 112.

Rememeber - You've got to fight <bah bah> for your right <bah bah> to broooooaadband!!!! :)

Well, im in range (about 13km away, should cover up to 15km) But if theres a hill or trees in the way.
They charge way tp much for install. New WISP's only charge about £50, not £150+!

Actually most WISP's do charge about £150. Anyone lower would be gettng subsidised by the govermment as the hardware is quite expensive.

Hey mcurrie, you are getting alot more for your £150 with Tele2.
They install Breezcom equipment, which if you surf around you will see it is some of the most highly regarded equipment on the market.
I did a little investigation and couldn't find the customer premises equipment for less than £600 on the web, so they are doing you favours really!!
Its very reliable business spec equipment, none of this wi-fi consumer grade usb junk....

I know it is, but its just when comparing it to ADSL, but I bet ADSL becomes obsolete before WDSL. At keast they come round and fix it if it goes wrong though.

I can back up that comment about the cost of the gear. I was told a figure of between £500-600 a while back. Seems a lot, seeing as the speed box seems to overheat perpetually.

The thing to be aware of is that they can tweak your settings to some degree when trouble-shooting, but only so far. In my case, they reduced the packet size and I suddenly stopped getting so many dropped packets and things became more stable. They may also try you on more than one aerial at the base station.

You may get 512k all the time, but then again at 13km range you may only get 256k (better than a kick in the teeth). You need to monitor things over a week or so to get a realistic sense of what's going on at certain times of the day or night. I certainly get degradation at peak usage times, but at others I peak up to the 450/500 range.

What I can recommend for checking your connection out is the following widget... <a href="http://www.webattack.com/get/netmedic.shtml" target="_blank">http://www.webattack.com/get/netmedic.shtml</a>

I've been using this little guy for years. Most of it's pretty useless, but the bandwidth throughput monitor is really useful for keeping an eye on your connection rate.

Liberty BB customer service is [censored]. It takes about 5,000 times of ringing to actually get through, and when you do, they have to get back to you, cause they don't know what is going on with the engineers. It's pathetic, and I am serious reconsidering being a customer from them.

I have to seriously not recommend liberty BB.
This is a quote from another post (by me)

Actually, feel yourself lucky. Liberty BB are the most arrogant bunch of no hopes.
The pings are often more than 1 second several times a day. Averaging about 200ms over a day. Packet loss makes even playing games worthless.
The problem is not with the wireless connection, its that they don't have a big enough back bone!!!
I have a background in network engineering and any one of a number of simple tests shows the trouble.
If you want something that is better service, go dig out an old modem!

My 5 cents :)

BTW if you ever complain to LBB don't expect to them to listen or even acknowledge you and don't forget the contracts are for 1 whole year and you can't get out of them, even if the connection is pathetic!
