looking for a new isp ! plz help

hey am looking for a new isp becasue mine is just plain bad!

am on aol at the minute we are on a 2 mb connection and they trottle so much during the day the service is not usable!

i am hardcore gamer or at least i try to be

my exchane is this 1
---> http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NICF

i need a low ping at all times with 50gb or more per month 20quid is the limit minus line retal.... impossible but we will see

cable is on my exchange but am over 600meters away so i dont get it and virgins adsl is a joke.

plusnet seems great with its unlimited package with gaming traffic at the top of the list :)

any help would be great looking titan due to 8 meg no traffic shaping and 100gb usage !

Hmm it seems like you don't have a lot of choices there and what you desire is a bit difficult to match at that price point. The main problem will be finding a fast service for multiplayer that also gives you a massive usage allowance, which without an unbundled ISP is going to be difficult.. nay risky.

However Virgin Media does claim to have SOME cable coverage (avoid their Virgin National ADSL products) on the exchange so you might be better picking one of those packages. TalkTalk are a bit of a risk but their service quality has improved, however they have a shaky history with multiplayer gaming performance.

Likewise it's hard to recommend Entanet ISPs like ADSL24 and some parts of TitanADSL at the moment, you might get a good service or you might not. PlusNet is also a bit hit and miss but might be worth a short. Generally speaking, for that amount of money, it's hard to fully recommend anybody.

If you could manage with a smaller allowance then the likes of Zen, IDNet and Fast.co.uk become more viable and have a strong level of quality.

well... samknows site is rubbish in a way cause it has been updated on a year according to the timer on the bottom of the page typical my luck :*(

anyways phoned virgin no cable offered and i know the horror storys of there adsl. am stuck 20 quid is the max i can pay due to my mum is paying for it and doesnt want to pay anymore and she wants to go with a big named compnay and not one that she hasnt heard of which is terrible.....

infact virgin phoned back and offered the adsl pack when i was out and my mum said yes and i was shocked so i phoned them back and canceld the sneaky @ss holes

i have been told by my techical guru of a mate stay away from the folowing

,virgin, aol (am currently with), bt, tesco,o2 access, talktalk llu and adsl and entrnet.

so am stuck.... titain is only good like ukonline if am in there llu area and so what has to be active on my exchange to get them? bulldog i guess?

titan i can get a 100gb dl limit with an untrottled 8mb connection and i cant find who they resale for like entrnet or easynet. i want o2 llu or be llu but not in my area typically

any suggestions or advice would be great? i want to get thid sorted before the end of the month

in facted scratch that i can boost my price to 25 casue am a student so i can chip in lol am already paying half so we will pay 25 in total minus line rental thats payed to bt i believe for about 12 quid :O

would love to know what companys use talk talks network i know opal does ( dont know if spelt properly) also a guy 8 doors down in the direction away from the exchange has AOL llu ??? yet on the exchange website they say i cant get it ? do they trottle there llu package ? probley do but i dont think il risk it or might depends what i can get.

been looking at adsl24 looks promising but that doesnt mean jack @@@@ when it comes to internet... ukonlines adsl packs have had mixed results sum say kool some say god kill me now ect....

talk talk can offer me 15mb according to there bt line checker on there network so i might go for it but it has a 40gb download limit and i cant be assed paying for there speed boosts and bandwitch boosts ect... seems pointless to me.

You could consider ICUK's Option 3 package for £25.

http://www.icukhosting.co.uk/broadband/internet_adsl_home.asp

Granted it has a 20GB peak allowance, but they also give you a 100GB off-peak allowance after 8pm. So just do like most people and queue your downloads till then. Judging by the reviews they seem to be pretty good and aren't Entanet based.

yeah there not but there that just as bad bt isp thing just like the o2 connect according to reviews

has entanet sorted out here system yet cause they use to be the best i think its bt at fault though?

ICUK has good reviews though? Being on BT isn't always bad, like I say, some ISPs do it properly but it does mean they are more expensive. Entanet based ISPs are still a bit hit and mass, I haven't seen lots of positive reports in awhile. But remember that they have short contract terms, so it can be worth trying since you could always switch if they don't work out.

so true but funny thing??

today and yestarday i was able to play at peak hours wit a ping of 50-60ms.

by peak hours you know like 5-12pm and i was amazed i was stuned apartently what happened people oin the ea forums that have aol+virgin cable and adsl said they cant connected to ea's servers samw with me and it lagged at peak hours butvirgin and aol have fixed the problem and it was al thanks to plusnets system of signing gaming trafic with id or number and then not trottling it to death i played cod4 warhawk and battlefeild and i was amazed might not have to change after all but i would like my ping lower than 60 but i get green ping and very playable connections now this was reported on the ea forums sorry i dont have a link.....

i post this as i new post it mgiht help alot of people

anybody is better than AOL

I pay £6.99 to AOL for my upto 3.1mb connection.
For that I also get free calls to 01 and 02 prefixed numbers. Calls to AOL tech are foc.

I called AOL today to tell them about my router resetting and they're going to send me a new router.

AOL do throttle my torrent download speed at times but I get far more than I should for what I pay.

That's true you do! Grrr :)

Hi,
You are pretty much at the mercy of where you live.
In my city I have 3 choices, Comcast, Comcast and Comcast.
At my moms house, it used to be Roadrunner, but its now Comcast.
At my Grandpas house its Sunflower.
Usually there are only 2 choices, a main provider (Comcast, Time Warner, Verison etc) and a piggy back of that provider. The piggy back will be a little cheeper and not quite as good service.
I like Comcast they have very good costumer relations, but so did time warner.
