Looking for more than 400k upload

Hi all
I have a good connection at the moment 8mb downstream but only 400k upstream.

now that may seem alot but I run a mud(txt based online game) and wish to expand.

Primary use of line is 24/7 access to a txt based online game for 20-30+ people.
One server running the mud
3 games pc's
1 X box
1 wireless laptop
What are my options ?

I know in theory I could buy a seperate, sdsl looks interesting but its way expensive to me, the only option that I see as viable is buying a seperate adsl line and that being just for the server.
what is the highest upload people know of in adsl etc

thankyou for any help.

Hi

ADSL has a max upload of 400k, your only options really are: SDSL, bonded ADSL (bit tempremental) or a leased line.

You're probably better off getting a dedicated server to be honest, its more cost effective, and in the case of our ones, connected to the Internet at 100mbs - thats 250 times faster than your current upload rate. (http://www.names.co.uk/servers.html).

Kind regards
Sam

It's nice to see the MUD community is still alive and well, I can remember playing "Shades" through a gateway on Prestel/Micronet800!

I have to disagree with Sam from NDO regarding bonded ADSL being temperamental, all the bonded DSL connections that we provide (including SDSL) have been rock solid so far (ever heard of bonded ISDN being temperamental? No).

I'd agree though that a dedicated server, or a virtual server (aka "VPS" or "VDS") would be a option to consider, probably VDS rather than dedi as I can't imagine your memory, disk and processor requirements would call for a fully dedicated server, and you'd save yourself a load of money over the other options as many virtual servers cost around the same as an uncapped ADSL connection. See http://www.enta.net/index.php?id=70 for our VDS details.

upload speeds up to a record-breaking 1.3 meg, this is super-fast broadband as you've dreamt it could be: unlimited usage, a free high specification wireless modem and, of course, always-on connection.

As far as servers go *strokes his sexy server*
Compaq proliant 8500 R 8 x 550mhz 2mb cache Xeon processors 4gb ram and 84mb scsi dual power supplies and dual UPS. (okay its a pIII but chuckles its a power house)

I am in NTL area but I have never liked there reliability

Sadly im not on a bt line but would be willing to buy a bt line in to run a seperate dsl line.

Muds are my life been running it for 8+ years, don't think I could go back to having it hosted externally, just something nice knowing the server is sitting on the desk next to my gaming pc.

Multilink PPP, just like bonded ISDN. It's an age-old standard and therefore tried-and-tested.

We do it, I'll drop you a PM.
