looking for slideshow software

long story short lm looking for some software that acts in a similar way to windows 7 slideshow which has similar options like being able to specify the time each slide comes up and randomly show images in specified folders, now you might say windows already does that.

however the reason lm asking is because lm looking for a software that has an extra feature of being able to run a slide show of 2 or more images on one monitor.. that is to say having up to 4 images running as a slideshow, is there a way to do this as lve only found an old outdated program from early 2004 which seems to be labelled a virus by my antivirus software despite scanning a few times manually and finding nothing.

Do you want something that basically keeps your image files as they are, or what you take and edit into something like a video file that plays back?

basically l just want to go into a folder in a similar way l would with windows slideshow viewer then it go through my images shuffling them etc.. and show 4 images or 2 images in a kind of split screen (via one monitor of course), lve found ways of doing it as a screensaver but that required compiling images into a file.. but l just want to be able to do it folder by folder when required without the need to compile gigs of photos into a screensaver as lve got allot to sort through and l was hoping to complete the task quicker before the sites they are for go back online.

Ah right, thought id ask first, all my suggestions involve either making a video type file, a screensaver or an .EXE file from the images :(
Though what you want sounds handy to have so i may have a look around, i wouldnt mind a small and preferable free little app to do something like this myself :)

like l said.. here or elsewhere lve asked.. there was one that supposedly did it, however its development stopped in 2004 and whenever l tried running my antivirus kept on notifying it stopped it from opening as it suspected a virus despite me scanning it while compressed and after it being extracted from the zip file.. but surely there is something out there that will do the job.. after all its not much different that using one monitor to split 4 screens of a CCTV system.. the only difference being it would be shuffling images instead.. it doesnt strike me as a new idea so someones got to of thought it up and made it.

Have you tried reporting it to the AV company as a false positive?? They might fix the problem and allow you to use it; two alternatives, change AV program or disable AV while the program is running.

^ On the AV point. It should be mentioned that a lot of AV software, such as ESET's NOD, now come with an option that flags software when it contains other "unwanted applications" (e.g. Yahoo toolbars etc.). This can cause confusion because the warning messages are typically quite general.

I usually find that a quick Google search about the problem helps me to identify whether it's really a virus to be worried about or just a piece of junk that's included within the package, which you can usually disable during the install.

tbh it looks to me more like just a stand alone exe, which does seem kinda suspect unless it contains one or two lines of exploitable code.

NOD stops some older programs working because the programmers keep some of the files in compressed folders; I know this because of a problem with ThumbPlus a few years ago; disable NOD and the program worked.
In that instance, the ThumbsPlus program makers had a newer version that avoided the problem, but it REALLY should be down to the AV programmers.

if we are talking web site related gallery generating tools it doesnt surprise me that much as its common for iframes to be picked up as false positives.
