Hello I've been a customer of AOL for around 5 years now and I think my patience has finally run out.

I am now looking for another ISP my exchange code is EAELS its rural so what ever company I try will only get me a conection speed of around 1 mb which I am fine with.

My main requirement is a reliable connection and a decent support staff. I am not sure what my usage is but I play online PC games alot hence the reliable connection needed.

But I am at a loss who to go for sofar I short listed Plusnet, O2 and BT. Any insight would be welcome.

I use Aquiss, no problems since I moved over to them from Cable. I recomend you do not sign upto any long contracts unless you are really looking for the cheapest connection then don't be suprised if something is compromised like perhaos speed or customer services. BT are at present gearing up to use a system that will gather your surfing habits to place targetd adverts onto you so worth reasearching about Phorm and the product BT webwise before you sign up also consider they will be using rolling 12month contracts with the payments of around £160 if leaving early even if partway through your second year when anything goes wrong.

BT are not using rolling contracts for broadband, only for some call packages. Charge for early termination of a broadband package is total of the premiums due plus the cost of a router if you got one "free".
Certainly no set fee of around £160.
Apart from that rest of the post is fine.

If you take the bundle of all three then rolling contract is what you get, ind I never accept 12month or more contracts for something like internet since the service deterioates so fast and BT never return your line back to the original condition or due to loss they cut back on staff or move to offshore tech support.

Rolling contract only applies to the evening calls package irrespective of broadband. At the end of the 12 months you either decline the offer and then pay for your free evening calls or renew and get the same thing for free. Nothing to do with the broadband deal, they are seperate.
No problem with you having a thing against BT but at least post facts.
Thinkbroadband have updated their "news" item twice so far and now reflects the true situation as does your own news section.

Hi Jon,

Have you checked to see whether O2's unbundled service is available in your area? If not then take note that most O2 packages will cost more and perform worse if they're on the BT side (non-unbundled) of the network. Likewise PlusNet's pricing is also regional in nature now so it's a good idea to check where you stand via their website.

Pop your phone number into our checker to see which unbundled services cover you:

Since you play multiplayers games a lot then I'd be inclined to recommend spending a little extra for quality, if you can't get O2 (Be Broadband) via an unbundled line that is. The likes of IDNet, Zen and Fast.co.uk are known for providing a good service in this area.

Hi Mark afaik I cannot get the unbundled service and I can't even get Be Broadband as for Plusnet I think I was in one of the cheaper areas. I will double check though.

This is all I can get in my area

YES - Standard ADSL @ up to 2Mbps (BT Wholesale IPStream / Datastream)
Estimated Best Speed: 1024Kbps.
LineCode: AGEC

YES - ADSL MAX @ up to 8Mbps (BT Wholesale IPStream / Datastream MAX)
Estimated Best Speed: 1000Kbps.
LineCode: AEGEGEC

I've been looking at Fast.co.uk. Though the main thing that is stopping my is I don't know what my usage is per month is there anyway I can check what sort of download usage i would need?

Thanks according the the Zen calculator I use less than 18gb a month.
