Looking to get landline broadband

Wow - haven't been on this site in years (well over a decade by my reckoning) and my account's still active - I'm surprised.

Anyway, I've recently moved home, and I'm looking to get broadband in. The downside? I don't currently have a landline, and being currently unemployed also limits my funds.

Now, I've done some looking about, and it looks like Primus Saver is the cheapest deal at present. I'd like to know how good people find them - the most recent review I saw for them here was several years ago.

I'd also like to know what other options there are. The area I live in has - to my knowledge - ADSL at best, and any setup I get would be primarily for online access (Browsing and some gaming).

As price is clearly the most important factor for you then I suggest looking at our standard broadband packages when ordered by the cheapest first:

Since quality is less of a consideration then I might actually be more inclined, on this rarest of occasions, to say that TalkTalk's new Simply Broadband package is arguably less of a risk for the money (but if you need free calls then that will cost extra).

Otherwise we haven't had much feedback about Primus so in a way that "might" be a good thing but we can't be sure. Direct Save Telecom is similarly unknown in terms of quality. The rest (EE, Tesco etc.) are cheap but often only for the first contract term.

if your on benefits you should be able to get a line with BT Basic which costs £14 every three months (might have changed but l wouldnt expect it to cost much more), this gives you £4 credit on calls before they start being charged, after calls cost slightly more but they can be capped.

however you can sign up for the internet using it but you are limited to only ISPs that dont take over your line, however should you wish to transfer elsewhere to an ISP who may take over your line you will be blocked from doing so until you get BT to remove the services from your line.. this was relatively painless from my experience as l used to use the service.
