So currently I am with AOL, i think you can see why I want to switch ;], anyway over the past few weeks the service has got dramatically worse than it normally is, Ive been struggling to download things at 10kbs..... ;[. The speed stays around this mark even at late hours, well beyond midnight. Calling their customer support as usual offers no solutions and im just offered upgrades from my current package.

So i wish to migrate, oh how much it will be trying to get the code from aol >.<, but i stumbled across this site so figured I could get some help ;p. BT test says my line can only support 4MB so i guess that's the starting point, but im just looking for a provider that people have had good experiences with, can provide a solid stable fast connection. I do alot of streaming on the web, well cant really do any at the moment with aol. Download a fair bit, few songs a day maybe, other then that its just usual web browsing. Been looking at titan adsl, and idnet but wanted to get see what you could provide :D

Cheers for any response

Hi Guest, look at the top 10 recommended ISP's and look at what they offer; remember, you get what you pay for, people like Tiscali and Orange may be cheap, but the service can be dire.

If 4 mbps is not enough, after switching ISP's and waiting out the training period, try removing the faceplate on your BT master socket, and plugging your router or modem into the test socket, leave 40 minutes between unplugging the adsl equipment, and plugging it back in though, this re-sets the line.
Then fire it up and see what you get; i got a 4 mbps connection up to nearly 6 mbps from doing this.

If having the cover hanging off looks too untidy, you can by a special IP Plate from BT (£10-£15)that will give you similar results (usually), and make the socket look tidy again.

Thx Kits.

Normally I would recommend my ISP VISPA, but there have been too many glitches in the past month; it is not even capable of streaming a radio station most days, and BBC News clips that used to download faster than they played now take so long I often give up waiting.

Pick IDNet, Zen or Fast.co.uk for quality and O2 (Be Broadband), Sky Broadband, PlusNet or an Entanet vISP if you don't mind losing some quality but gaining a reasonable service for slightly less. Just be aware that O2/Be are going through some network congestion problems at the moment, though not all customers are impacted (same with Entanet vISPs).

Note that Sky and O2/Be are unbundled (LLU) based providers, so you'll need to check that they cover your exchange first. Pop your phone number in here and scroll down the results page for the answer:
