Low latency internet

Hi all.

So I’m an occasional gamer, like 1 hour a day 4 times a week.

My house can’t get virgin media. They run along the main road but I’m the first house off the main road, about 20 meters. I can’t get virgin media

For fibre broadband I can receive an estimated 10 meg download and 1 meg upload. I don’t have this service yet.

I have a 5G router that gets about 60 meg download but the latency is about 50ms. This service is hot and miss.

I have starlink that’s getting about 150 meg download 30 meg upload but I get about 70ms latency and every couple of minutes I get 10% packet loss. As the satellite changes.

I can’t get hyper optic, city fibre etc. I’m based on the Wirral. Most houses in the area have FTTP. Is there anyway to expediate a FTTP service?

Lastly do different isp’s actually provide better latency’s or would all be the same on the open reach backbone?

Virgin is not low latency regardless of advertised speeds so keep well away.

Your FTTC at 10mb is slow but the latency may be good, but you would not know until you tried it and if its not good be stuck with it for 12 months.

So FTTP is your best chance, only way to expedite it is.

1. If a very close neighbour has FTTP then use the Openreach 'My neighbour has FTTP but I do not' inquiry on the Openreach website.

2. Look at bibd.uk and look for any local activity and make contact with these companies.

3. FTTPoD via Cerberus or a few others, but likely expensive at £8k + .

For best gaming ISP's look on gaming forums as they will know best.

Have you tried another mobile network in your router to see if others give a better connection? Smarty (Three), Lebara (Vodafone), Luca/Giffgaff (O2), also Virgin Mobile (currently Vodafone but moving to O2).

Pop in some pay and go Sims and check them all out.
