MAX DSL settling in question

LO all,

I just went max dsl today. I'm well aware that the connection will fluctuate for 10 days but am a bit suprised by what I see.

Out of interest and a little concern can someone answer this.

My modem shows connected at 7.5mbps so it obviously knows its an 8 meg line
' great start '

BUT my dowmloads are only doing 230 kps even on Microsoft which will achieve 5 times that, this is 'exactly' wat I got under my 2 meg line.

Also if I do an online speedtest again it reaches 230 kbps although it does show an upload speed in excess of what a 2 meg line achieves at about 374 kbps so this is clearly different.

Do BT limit download whilst just testing max upload speeds or something or am i being traffic managed, or is this part of the 'MAX' tuning process. I know they will connect the modem at various speeds but i have read nothing about connecting at 7.5 and then only allowing a 2 meg through put ??

BT modem reports 7616 down 448 up, so clearly modem to exchange is 7 meg plus

cheers

Hi Mas,

It can take up to 3 days for the throughput match the sync speed but i think you also are mixing up bit and byte on the upstream and the downstream, if you do a speedtest through some where like www.adslguide.org.uk and see what you get.
