From TMZ -

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but they had no luck.

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

LaToya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

AFAIK TMZ broke the story and have been ahead of the other news sources. They all seem to be confirming the TMZ release now.

His poor health didnt look good for the O2 performance.
I read many months ago his production team were finding it impossible to get any insurer to cover the venue because of his uncertain appearance.
Just read this:-

Only last month, the Daily Mail reported that Jackson was struggling to make even a handful of the rehearsals for the comeback tour which was due to start in July at the O2 in London.

He had been to just two out of more than 45 rehearsals.

In recent years I've had mixed feelings about this singer, but his earlier albums were incredible and Thriller will always have a place on my iPod :) .

For a little while there will be a form of unreality, like perhaps when Elvis died, or Princess Diana, or when we first heard about 9-11. I am NOT comparing these sad events, but the natural human reaction to something unexpected and the sense things aint gonna be the same again.

Jackson had his problems, sure, remember though there are hundreds of other celebrities / musicians with problems but we still enjoy their music without condoning their actions.

Jackson had huge talent and stage presence, you cannot argue with his contribution to and sales of music. Like Winter, I consider Thriller, especially the video, to be in my top ten favorites and won't ever leave.

AEG should allow the gigs to go ahead so his fans can pay their respects to their King of Pop. this would an memorial to him regardless of his problems in life! @ 50 no one knows as to whats around the corner? I had a heart attack when I was 41.5 years old that was 15 years ago?

R.I.P Micheal thank you for your music & long may it live for forever?

How's that going to work? 50 (I think) Michael Jackson concerts without Michael Jackson? A load of tribute performers? If I had a ticket I wouldn't want to go and see a cheap imitation.

As far as his death is concerned, my reaction is the same as when Diana died, or for that matter Farrah Fawcett or anyone else I don't know - its sad they died (especially if they die young) but life goes on.

I have sympathy for their families, and think they should be left to grieve in peace.

Its fair to say I won't be joining in the mass hysteria/grieving that will be all over the news over the next few days. I'm not glad Jackson (or anyone else) is dead, but it doesn't concern or upset me any more than anyone else's death either.

Never proved.

Whether or not he did molest the children, he certainly acted inappropriately by inviting young teenages to share his bed / bedroom - something I seem to remember he admitted.

Plus, if he really was innocent, and wanted to clear his name, paying off an accuser to the tune of $20m wasn't the most convincing way of doing it.

As you say, the allegations were never proved - but he didn't do a convincing job of disproving them either.

I don't claim to know whether he was guilty or not - but I wouldn't have wanted him anywhere near my kids.

I never suspected, or intimated that he was innocent. I just said the accusations were not proved.
I also have grave doubts over his relationship with Bubbles, the chimp.

I'd forgotten about bubbles.

*groan* If you are a "Finally retired pensioner" I'm willing to bet its not comedy you retired from! ;-)

Wonder if the 'Management' will make more money as a result of him dying than if he'd done the tours.

IMHO, he hasn't done anything for 20 years that I'd listen to. Off the wall was the best album.

Latterly, I think he's more famous for being a nutter than his music but the masses will come out like they did for Diana.
