Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" Cracked in 24 Hours

AV sez, "This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called 'Genuine Advantage.' It was cracked within 24 hours."

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

No doubt Microsoft will be making "improvements" sooner or later ...

24 hours is a pretty good record for them. Windows XP was cracked before it was even released.

It's old news, carried on a large number of mainstream sites, and probably won't work by the end of tomorrow - hardly worth getting excited about really.

What are you talking about? Windows XP or Windows Longhorn/Vista

I see nothing wrong at all with Bobs message.
It's not pirate software, nor is it hacking code, and neither is it in breach of T&Cs.

In fact, it seems that MicroSoft even allow you switch it off:-
Run I.E
Tools > Manage Add-ons
Disable "Windows Genuine Advantage"
Quit & restart I.E

& Bingo!!! (for the time being)

Never had any problems with it myself. Run the update program once a week (like I do with Windows), install programs using the built-in system that computes and automatically downloads dependancies. Windows needs more taking care of, what with all the viruses and spyware you can pick up.

hehe yea, at-least the sex will be good :D.

yea I never had trouble too. only thing is some websites gives bit trouble.

I don't know which distro you guys used, but I was using SuSE and had major problems finding and installing dependancies. Life's too short to spend half of it pulling your hair out sorting out dependancies. :D

Many distros (including SuSE, Mandriva, etc.) have programs that will compute and download the relevant dependancies for you when installing a program. They'll let you add extra servers to use too. I suggest trying Mandriva and using the Easy Urpmi site.
