Microsoft installer issues...

has anyone had or heard of any Microsoft installer issues recently?

lm sure some may have followed my issues with novatech previously and the fact lve returned my not so new system three times due to problems...

the last was that l couldnt not install Windows XP it would get to certain files and throw ram related problems at me.. or at least l thought they were ram related problems because the pre-checks had not finished and at the times it was failing hard drive access had not started..

anywho the last time l decided to reinstall due to the fact my windows installer stopped working... every time l went to install skype the msiexec.exe would throw up errors which seemed to be memory related... throwing up error locations starting with 0x which resulted in skype throwing error 1601 at me

this problem has returned after a month or so exact same error, now before anyone says anything the ram isnt the same, in fact l have 2GB now matched sticks which are l believe DDR2 5400 Corsair modules also since then my DVD burner & hard drive has changed the only things that are the same from my original spec are the motherboard and the power supply...

to be honest l dont see the power supply causing these issues especially seen as the problem is exactly the same as last time however the motherboard could possibly be the problem if you consider certain things like the bios.. lm currently scanning for viruses but havent found one as of yet.

suffice to say this issue is driving me up the wall as l can completely rule out the hard drive (this install is on a newer drive, the old drive which was installed is now a storage one) and the new ram but l wouldnt get exactly the same problems if it was ram related.

Current hardware:

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 (non-wireless version)
2 x 320GB Maxtor SATA (only had one originally but the new one was installed onto last time and l kept the original which had my last install on)
1x 120GB IDE
1GB novtech memory DDR2 5400 now changed to a match pair of 2GB Corsair DDR2 5400 (Corsair sticks are new last time l only had the novatech memory in when l experienced this problem)
Radeon Spahire x1050
Samsung SATA Burner (original one was IDE)
SoundBlaster Audigy 2

here are some screen caps of my errors:

installing:

install fail:

Starting the windows installer manually:

manual service start fail:

if anyone has any idea what the hell caused this and or is experiencing it then let me know because lm at a loss to explain it because this issue wont appear anywhere but at home unless novatech just timesaved and reinstalled my system without running tests.

The last time had regular errors like this was from a failing CD drive; it would play music and read uncompressed files but kept causing subtle errors when reading CAB files; more recently; i.e. last week, I was getting similar errors because my mobo was getting too hot from my new X1950.
I cooled the system and uninstalled/reinstalled software that had been glitching ( like Zonealarm), and everything has been working correctly.
Hope that helps.
Can you check the mobo and cpu temperatures ?? Asus boards have Asusprobe on the mobo driver install disk.

shouldnt be temps motherboard reads 33C processor 32C

hell my case is a Thermaltake Armour which has a 25CM side fan so everything runs pretty cool, hard drives in fact are running at the following temps. 30C, 30C, 32C, and 26C

the strange thing is its the same file same error, cant be sure about the actual "0x" locations but its a mirror of the problem l had last time, it especially makes no sence when you think 1. l have new ram, 2. and the install of XP this time is on a new hard drive, and 3. new DVD burner... the only constance this time is that l have the same motherboard and PSU

*UPDATE*

my issue has now been fixed thanks to a friend of mine!!

the how to:

Click Start > Run > Type: services.msc
Locate service "Windows Installer"
Right Click on Windows Installer choose menu option "Properties"
Navigate to the "Log On" tab
Check the Tickbox "Allow Service to Interact with Desktop"

everything is now working again YAY ^_^

Weird problem !! isn't windows installer supposed to interact with Desktop by default??

BTW, despite my last post ZoneAlarm is still playing up, anyone else having problems?? TrueVector service shuts down 4-5 times a day due to an error; I have uninstalled and downloaded the latest version to no avail.

whats the error? and have you googled it? thats in so many words how l fixed my problem :) spent a few days looking sadly l wished l had found it sooner as it would have saved so much time... and supposedly it shouldnt need to interact with desktop due to how it works but for some reason something messed up but lm surprised something as small as this fix worked. tried so many more complicated fixes such as re-registering services and such.

Hi All,

I had the same problem with a 2003 server the other month. It turned out to be a failed install of another problem before the one i was trying to install. Once i deleted the failed program install from the machine i could install aps again.

Maybe that is the same problem you are having?

Let us all know if you manage to fix it

I just keep getting a "TrueVector has experienced an error and is shutting down" boxes.

Sods Law, it hasn't happened today, (yet).

Last time I had a problem with ZoneAlarm a fresh install cured it; this is the first real problem I had had with the program other than that since I started using it; waaaaay back in the last century !!!

I had the 100% cpu load from doing an update rather than full install earlier this year, uninstalling and reinstalling clears it, and still no problems with truevecter today, I did notice an update late last night; perhaps that fixed it.
Fingers and toes crossed.
