Might have to change to BT Unlimited, need some input on performance.

I may need to change from Sky Unlimited Broadband to BT's Unlimited Broadband, I want to know if BT is any good? Their website says they don't throttle with their 'Totally unlimited broadband', but when it comes to say... torrenting, or other P2P things, are BT safe to use as Sky?

With Sky I never got throttled, never received any letters, is BT the same?

I would suggest avoiding BT as the have to implement the various Torrent website blocks - and that sometimes impacts on other websites; they will also have to block any other sites the government dont like (weall know where THAT will lead).

There are a few small ISPs offering unlimited ADSL/FTTC with no restrictions on torrents etc, so I suggest you shop around.

I have been on BT unlimited for years, not fibre though, and we get about 7 mb/s on good old ADSL, once had a warning email about using near 100gb in a month however my daughter got a new laptop and our usage in March went to 360GB and we didn't hear a thing. Not sure about bit torrent throttling as I use usenet which I have no problem in maxing out. I agree with the Captain BT seem to be very keen on blocking sites.

I suppose it depends upon your reason for swapping as, price wise, there's not much in it so I'm assuming your decision is being driven by TV or? Generally though Sky seems to be rated higher so I'd be inclined to stick with them.

Well Sky also blocks certain websites, there's proxies for that. I just mean when actually using torrents and stuff, I have peerblock to try and make things easier.

The reason I might have to change is just because I'm on Sky, but it's a very old account so it still uses my BT phoneline, my dad pays for it, he wants to stop paying for it.. so unless I work something out I'll need to get a Sky account with a phoneline, but our BT is already being transferred over to the new place and I don't know if that'll cause delays if I tell them I want to immediatley switch to Sky.

Ah ok, so a bit tricky then, and if your line is already being moved then I'd leave it alone until after that process is done (not forgetting about any contracts that might also be involved).

All of the big ISPs have the same sort of website filtering/blocking systems in-place, which target child abuse sites, piracy sites (after a court order) and of course the parental control blocks if you enable those. But as you correctly say, blocks are easy to avoid.

In terms of usage, so long as you pick one of BT's "truly unlimited" options then they should be pretty flexible for your needs. But I struggle to recommend them as an ISP due to the gripes we often see and my own past experiences with whatever passes for their "customer support" these days.

They also seem to be having quite a few issues with DNS Servers and BT Mail. I do not use the latter, so with-hold comment, but the DNS issue seems to be recurring, even if BT say it's fixed. My gateway just redirects the stuff to google's DNS which seems to have made things smoother.
