MikroTik Chateau 5G Router

@benparker - I was reading this thread and saw that you updated your Chateau from ROS 7.1 to 7.15. This is likely the source of your problem.

Version 7.13 changed the way ROS works internally and is not compatible with earlier versions - https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=202423

My advice would be to install ROS v7.12.2. Get everything working on that version then upgrade to v7.13 and then finally to v7.15.3. Note that the update to 7.13 might be a bit 'unusual'.

Bear in mind that you have likely wiped all the baseline settings. I would advise performing a factory reset after you install 7.12.x. Access the router using the WinBox software and the MAC address if necessary. If you still have troubles getting a wifi signal try turning off DFS.

Older versions of ROS are availiable here - https://mikrotik.com/download/archive

If you are still having problems getting online with the correct APN settings for your supplier try selecting IPv4 only. I had this issue on the LTE18 with EE.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for joing to help out.

Ok so now I'm using the Zyxcel adapter and so far no reboots. I've only had this router for about 2 days so no settings were really lost. Is there any reason why it's advised to set up on 7.12.x than the latest update?

Probably won't need it but what is DFS and how do you disable?

Are there any other particular settings I should tinker with or change?
Also can you lock bands with this router?

You can tell it to skip DFS channels, which basically stops it from picking any 5ghz WiFi channel above channel 100 (5500mhz) which are subject to a 10min radar check. I personally do not recommend doing this since your likely to have a clearer wifi channel and just waiting for the 5ghz channel to come up. If it detects radar it will just switch channel. If you are in the UK any non DFS channel is limited to 200mw, the DFS channels are limited to 1w which means a stronger WiFi signal. So I'd just leave the default settings, the only I ever change is to set the 2.4ghz channel to 20mhz only.

7.12.x is the last version that used the default configurations the device was supplied with. I suspect that when the device was upgraded direct to 7.15 the necessary intermediate steps that happened in the 7.13 upgrade were missed. Hence no WIFI light / problems. I think that you can get 7.12.x working easier than messing with 7.15. The 7.13 step ensures that your working configuration is upgraded to the correct modules.
DFS allows the router to use additional WIFI frequencies if they are not in use. I've had problems with a hAPax2 selecting DFS frequencies that were outside the ranges availiable to the client devices. The router says it is working fine via ethernet but the WIFI SSID is not seen by the clients.
In webfig on the wifi interface page scroll down to "channel" it's the "skip DFS channels" option - select "all". It's also useful to make sure the country is set correctly in the "configuration" section.
I've never needed to lock bands. Before I moved to the countryside it did CA without any problems. Now I'm here there's only one mast and CA isn't an option... This might help: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/LTE#LTE-UsingCelllock

Hapax2 likes to sit on a WiFi channel

Hapax2 has a habit of liking to pick a 5ghz channel theat uses channel 144, a lot of clients do not like this frequency. The solution is to set a range to disallow that.

Tell it to use 5170-5650 and this should solve your issue with it without disabling the DFS channels.

The chateau 5g with Wifi-qcom-ac will not use that channel it's not allowed if United Kingdom is selected as the region.

I selected the 2nd option from top left and channel is blank. Do I have to manually add them?

I've never needed to use an external antenna with it. Put it up in the loft and get an excellent signal with the built in ones. I believe the external antenna on this particular model is for 5g only. If you want to use an external antenna with it, it's not ideal since the modem in it has 8 antenna ports and to use an external for 4g and 5g you need to hook up at least 6 of the antennas, to 3 external antennas, so it gets a bit expensive. If you wanted to do that you'd be better off with the chateau 5g R16 which only has 4 antenna ports on the modem.

The R16 modem has 6x antenna ports, it has 2x ports for B32. But it's a lot easier to use the 4x ports for 4&5G (4x4 MIMO) and just leave the internal B32 antennas as they are.
