MikroTik R11e-LTE . How do I reset to factory settings?

We had someone install one of these and a SXT R on a pole for our internet access from EE many years ago and we’ve finally had enough of EE and their awful speeds (2-5mb, £42/month). We have someone remove the antenna today and I’ve removed the EE sim from it. I’ve replaced it with a Vodafone sim and stupidly expected it to just work.
Of course, it didn’t work but I have no idea why. I tried to change the apn to wap.vodafone.co.uk but it wouldn’t keep the change because I don’t have the login. The installer never gave us this information.
Is there some way to reset this to factory settings? I really need to get this to work but I’m well out of my depth here!
Any advice would be appreciated!

Try here..

click on "Support"

click in "Documentation"

Type "Reset..." into the search box

All the documentaion & how to's you'll ever need..

sheesh....You're gonna struggle reconfiguring a blank Mikrotik router if you can't do a basic internet search :-(

@NoHomer welcome to the ispreview forums.

There's dozens of us here with Mikrotik devices, and a few have the sxt LTE.

I would recommend a Netinstall this will reset and format the unit to defaults, in it's default configuration the sxt has a quickset to configure the connection.

Any issues please reply, it can be a steep learning curve but you basically have to follow the instructions, hold down the reset button, wait for the sxt to appear in the netinstall application, choose default configuration and press the install button.

As soon as you get in we can look at coverage what bands are available to connect to etc.

Follow the documentation link on ww.mikrotik.com and read about the reset proceedure.

Reset the device, connect to it with an ethernet cable and a copy of winbox on your PC.

Reset the password, reboot and go from there with a softwaere upgrade to 7.8 first off..

A "Netinstall" is not required and a hard pass if you don't know what you are doing

The reset button is inside. Just below the primary SIM card slot.

Press it while you power the SXT up. When the green LEDs next to it start flashing, it’s done.

In a domestic installation I wouldn’t (unless they had a reputation for fiddling) but that doesn’t mean somebody hasn’t.

I was wondering how NoHomer managed to temporarily change the APN without logging in.

Thanks guys for all the help.
I found the http://192.168.88.1/webfig/ url on some Reddit thread a while ago and got to that page. It immediately asked me to change my login but because I didn’t have the original password, I couldn’t do anything so I just clicked the bar at the top and that let me into Quickset and webfig. I then clicked interfaces and found a bunch of stuff that I didn’t understand!
It did allow me to change the bands, however, and I found 3 and 7 best for EE.
Anything more and it keeps asking me for the password!
Im not sure how it let me in and change some stuff without a password - maybe it’s an old OS version or something.
I’m trying to remove the rusty Ethernet cable today so I can bring it inside, clean it all up and reset it after connecting it to my Mac.
Hope the thing will work - we’ve managed with 3 to 5mb speeds for so long!

Good job @NoHomer

Would recommend that you reset the device as explained in Mikrotik's online documentation and then use Winbox to update & reconfigure RouterOS as Webfig often gives wonky results. RouterOS 7 has a lot of worth having fixes for LTE interfaces.

On macOS you'll need to install Homebrew then Wine (Windows emulation) to run Winbox. It runs really well on a Mac.

Once you've got back into the device you'll be working with

Interfaces > LTE > LTE APN's > Add new APN, type in the APN for Vodafone > Apply
Back into Interfaces > LTE > doucle click on the LTE interface and add the new APN profile, and then select the Bands appropriate for Vodafone > click apply & OK

The iOS app is Webfig with a fancy shirt on and suffers the same problems as Webfig, avoid....

If you don't want to install any software (Homebrew is a piece of cake to install, as is wine-stable) then open a mac OS terminal and type the following after you've followed the correct reset proceedure ...

==> ssh -l admin 192.168.88.1

hit enter

hit enter again (the password is blank for a reset device)

Follow the instructions to create a new password...

Ok, back to plan a then. Having trouble removing the rusty Ethernet connector from the unit. Why on earth would anyone use a metal-cased ethernet plug on an external device…grrrrr.

Yet the Android app allows you to connect via MAC, so that cant be Webfig.
