MikroTik R11e-LTE . How do I reset to factory settings?

Ok, back to plan a then. Having trouble removing the rusty Ethernet connector from the unit. Why on earth would anyone use a metal-cased ethernet plug on an external device…grrrrr.
Have you split the case and taken the board out? It might make it easier to get at. You can check the condition of the antenna while you are at it.

ok, just an update. I finally got the ethernet cable off, cleaned it all up - loads of dead bugs etc. yuk.
Put in a new ethernet cable, SIM card etc. connected to Mac via ethernet, powered up, logged in to 192.168.88.1 and...nothing.
The light on the board is on and the lights on the ethernet adapter are flickering as usual..

Have you managed to get Winbox on your Mac or the app on your ipad?
No, my ISP (Vodafone) says that site (funky monkey) is 'restricted content' and I've had to apply to them to allow the 'adult content' on the site. Good old UK. Apparently that can take 24 hours..

The app or Winbox?

MikroTik app

Use the MikroTik smartphone app to configure your router when a computer is not available. Full configuration menus are available to access all parts of RouterOS.

Winbox, or rather that site that was linked to earlier on. The app is nearly £30..
would this all be easier if I borrowed a PC from a friend?

huh? Reviews say that to do anything at all, you need to have a subscription of £27 ish a year! I'm talking about "Winbox Mobile Router Admin"
Is that the right one?

I've downloaded it in any case!

No! You want the RouterOS configuration tool.

Just search on Mikrotik on the App Store or use the link I posted above.

The original installer did the job correctly if the RJ45 plug jacket is metal and the cable is STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) because it provides elecrical grounding and reduce EMC.

The SXT R's enclosure is IP54 rated from the factory so should be able to withstand typical outdoor use but it would appeat that either the cable stuffing gland or the case has been compromised and you've had an ingress of moisture over a long period of time.

Which is likely why performance was so poor, antenna degredation, pin & contacts corroded etc. The R11e modem is only Category 4 rated to begin with (Max theoretical 100Mbs download)

If it was my device I'd cut the plug off and work on the device at a bench and use some side cutters to gently cut & remove the plug from the jack. Then use some spray contact cleaner & tooth brish to clean up the board and contacts. Try & update the device and go from there.

No idea what your time is worth but it's probably less expensive to bin it and buy something newer, Mikrotik have a ton of Cat 6, 7, 18 and 20 devices that are way faster and will solve all your problems for not a lot of money.

You just need to make off a new RJ45 plug for the one you cut off or pull a new cable....

from the linked site

1. Open terminal and run:

(copy & paste this next command directly into a Terminal window, all one line)

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

Authenticate when prompted to. (your macOS admin password)

Be patient, after a minute or so, Homebrew will be installed on your Mac.

When that has completed paste the next two lines into a Terminal window

export PATH=/opt/homebrew/bin:$PATH
export PATH=/opt/homebrew/sbin:$PATH

Then paste this:

brew install cask

Then paste this to install Wine:

brew install wine-stable

not sure what's happened but the app or the web login isn't working. It did work briefly but now, it just won't show up on 192.168.88.1.
I downloaded the free app and even that won't connect.
Beginning to wonder if HairyLeg's advice is a better option..

Did I not mention that anything Webfig is funky :)

Have you tried resetting the device yet?

ok, the discovered tab did nothing but I did a reset with the button held and power on and that did it. I logged it with the iPad app and it asked me to change the default password, which I did.
Where do I go now?

Follow HairyLeg’s directions…

Interfaces > LTE > LTE APN's > Add new APN, type in the APN for Vodafone > Apply

Back into Interfaces > LTE > doucle click on the LTE interface and add the new APN profile, and then select the Bands appropriate for Vodafone > click apply & OK

It's got no internet access so you cant use [>system>auto upgrade]

You'll first off need to download the latest RouterOS software from Mikrotik > software > MIPSBE - Main Package)
Save it somewhere on your mac

Go to Files > Upload and browse to the location on your mac where you saved the RouterOS software, click ok

Wait until it's uploaded then reboot the device by going here [>system>reboot]
