mobile broadband advice

Hi
Just signed up seeking some info.
Looking to go to mobile broadband as fed up with BT snail speed.
Any advice / recommendations of suppliers or kit needed appreciated.
Few points / questions
1) I live in Scottish Borders (TD14) - how can I find out nearest Vodafone or EE mast (as heard they are both good)
2) My speed is between 3 - 7 MB/s on copper cable (its a bit behind the times here), but problem I have is that is oscillates between 7 ish and then drops to below 1 for now reason - and often. BT engineers (4 of them) have found (and solved !) a couple of issues.
3) I have a sky q enhancer which one engineer said was clashing
4) Can I keep my landline number and BT sport if I ditch them completely.

Any advice appreciated as at my wits end with customer services , yet to start of asking for compensation or release from contract !

Hi,

Can't answer all points, but you can check nearby masts on cellmapper.net.
Additionally, both VF and EE have a coverage checker and can tell you what kind of signal you could get. Not sure how this would translate into actual speed. Get payg sims from both and check in your phone, if it's a new-ish one.

If you cancel your line you'll also lose your fixed number ..
Re BT sport, you can get it as a free add-on to an EE contract, but only to watch on mobile. You have to pay extra (£5?) If you want to be able to watch on a smart TV app, as far as I know.

4) Can I keep my landline number and BT sport if I ditch them completely.
If you have no land line then the only way to keep your land line number is to transfer it to a VoIP provider (doing that will cancel your land line and your ADSL).
I use sipgate, which works well for me (I only use it for incoming calls), as there is no line rental - just a one-time set-up fee. Other providers are available, and have varying call prices and features.. You of course need a broadband connection for VoIP to work (4G is OK).
BT Sport is available via other providers - e.g. EE provide it for £10 on top of their unlimited business SIM.

I ported my number to Sipgate too after 3 months of testing 4G, the adsl got cancelled with the number port. My router has a voip box plugged into it.
