So I'm looking to sign up for a mobile broadband contract with a home router.
I've downloaded the Open Signal app, and it looks like the fastest operators in my area are EE and then Three. Three is much less expensive than EE so I'm thinking of going with them. However, the resolution on their map isn't great and we're at the edge of the signal coverage area so who knows what the speed will be like at the house.
I'm thinking of getting a cheap PAYG SIM from Three and using it to do multiple speed tests on Open Signal over say a week, to capture any variation in speed, and then make my decision. Is there any better way of doing this?
Ideally I'd test EE, Vodafone and O2 as well, but this seems like a faff if I have to do it with separate sims.
Bonus question - this would be on 4G, EE and Three are listed on https://5g.co.uk/coverage/ as rolling out 5G in our area but no coverage yet. Is there any more granular way to see when 5G will cover my address? I've checked the coverage on the individual providers websites but it doesn't tell me much more.
Thanks for any help!
