Mobile Phone Discussions (Apple)

Apple announces launch event for the iPhone 16, AirPods 4, and more. (September 9th)

Might be of interest to the fruity peeps. :giggle:
I figured they were going to announce it for the 9th, heard it somewhere awhile back not that it *really* matters which day they do it on although some would say some dates are better than others because of what goes on at those times

I think we largely know all the features coming to the new iPhone 16 series which yet again are all minor updates. We already saw most of what they're promising with Apple Intelligence but it won't be available on delivery day(and might not get to the UK/EU anyway).

I'm critical but will of course be pre-ordering the 16 Pro Max in 512GB (for work) and 1TB (personal).

iOS Beta 8 dropped today - no SA toggle for O2.

We’re 2 week’s or so away from the apple event with the RC within the same 2 weeks. I highly doubt iOS 18.0 is going to enabled Stand Alone for O2 when it’s released.

There’s a chance that they will send out a carrier update later or we’ll have to wait for iOS 18.1.

Case review for the iPhone 16 Pro Max - not sure if the YouTuber has broken an NDA without realizing!

Confirms the size and the new capture button on the new iPhone Pro 16.

One of the other big YouTubers had a similar thing where they were asked to do a case review for an unreleased device. I think it was MrWhoseTheBoss? Obviously he declined as to not violate any NDAs even though he probably would've gotten away with it, as it's just showing a case and not an actual device.

Dunno, even with him having more subscribers than Apple if they freeze you out that's a lot of content lost and no more early access.

Big upgrades for the base models, not so much for the 16 Pro series!

Still pre-ordering on Friday though :D

I’ve been running the iOS 18 RC build for a week or so on my iPhone 15 Pro and had no carrier updates during that time, but this evening after the final release, I was prompted to install a carrier update (O2 59.1) and now have the 5G Standalone toggle in my mobile data settings on my O2 SIM.

The option is greyed out though, claiming “Your current SIM does not support 5G Standalone”, which is curious as it is an eSIM. Must be an account-level thing.

My iPad, on Three, has had no carrier updates yet and is still on Three 59.0.

I’m in the same boat as you and the option is greyed out.

Are you using eSIM or a plastic one? It’s not an account restriction because I’ve had a physical SIM on this line and been able to connect to SA in a Samsung.

After a few months of testing, Apple finally released iOS 18 to the general public.
:)
I don’t mind it, but hate the coloured icons. Also I don’t get why they decided to change Apple ID to Apple account. Don’t like it. My control center now:

5G SA working just great here on O2. O2 always release major carrier updates with new iOS versions, they just always have and probably always will.

That’s good then, wonder when will 3 release or even announce SA. They deffo wont before the merger, if it even goes through. 🙈

They’re broadcasting SA in some places already so it can’t be that far off, especially as the other 3 MNOs have coverage in some places. Given the merger is quite a bit off I think we’ll see it before that goes ahead (hopefully).
