Mobile Phone Discussions (Apple)

I’m looking forward to the AirPods Pro 2 enhancements. As someone with mild hearing loss I’m interested to see if/how it could help particularly in noisy environments. The rest of the time I’m happy for people to think I’m being ignorant 😉
I actually recall watching a video not all that long ago to over why apple is spending a certain amount of money on a "silent epidemic" discovering the reasons behind hearing loss, the loss in any work productivity because of said hearing loss.

It's actually quite cool what they're trying to stop what will be known as one of the biggest killers of work productivity.

Or just productivity in general.

I think the hearing health features are US and Canada for the moment.

Aye - they'll make their way to the UK eventually!

I think they're also doing some research (or were) on how to measure blood glucose through a sensor in the Apple Watch which is really exciting. I hate finger prick testing and can't wear a CGM all the time because I catch it constantly and after a while the adhesive starts to irritate me!

Beta 18.2 is available and it looks like it might include some Apple Intelligence features for UK English.

Still no SA toggle on the 14 pro with EE. Not that I have one of those new plans with SA anyway.

Isn't the SA toggle only visible on plans that have SA? Unless I was mistaken and it should be visible without a plan

On top of that, isn't it just the 15 pro/15 lineup + 16s that have SA capabilities too?

That I thought.

The toggle is there but greyed out with a message saying it’s unavailable.

iOS 18.1 is now available for all users.
I now have apple intelligence as I set my language to US english, but left a British Voice / date and all that, so i don't notice any difference TBH.

One thing though, for all the hype... Siri still seems pretty dumb to me, am i missing something? I thought new SiRi was supposed to be real clever, I know the chat GPT stuff hasn't been added yet, but she still makes the same old mistakes as before.

Most of the apple Intelligence functionality isn’t launching until next year. It’s partially the reason why most tech bloggers weren’t screaming from the rooftops to get the new iPhone. A few of them even recommended waiting for the next version when (hopefully) it’s fully launched.

The whole apple intelligence thing is so underwhelming, I use Co-Pilot and other Microsoft / ChatGPT based tools as well as Gemini for personal stuff, it feels like Apple isn't even scratching at the surface of what the others can do.

I hear their bluff about "doing it right", but right now if feels like their marketing is away ahead of their abilities.

Yes to all of this.

I don’t know, aside from the writing tools, what the use case is for the features or how the average user will use them. Genmoji or whatever they’re calling it will be a novelty that quickly wears off.

They marketed the new iPhones as next generation with Apple Intelligence ‘coming soon’ but when it all finally arrives I think people will be disappointed or wondering what all the noise was about (much like 5G SA).

They will sadly disappoint many hundreds if not thousands of people if they don't do it right, but most people already know what it's supposed to be like so it's already a letdown

100%

First impressions count, my first impressions are like "meh", I defo wouldn't have purchased a new phone for this!

Then you have the ... but wait... there's more to come. Somehow neglecting the fact a lot of people, especially tech minded people have been using AI tools for some time.

Then, Apple comes along with a much slimmed down version named "Apple intelligence" and expect folks to go "WOW!", I think most people will be "Is this it????, this is what has been delayed for months and months?"

But wait they're "doing it right" 🙄

If anyone is reading this and thinking about trading up their phone just for "Apple Intelligence", based on the current release, don't bother in my opinion.

I feel like I'm getting into some element of criticism which is not normal of me with apple products, but this really is a let down... Apple legal team, this is just my opinion... I'd like to thank Beyonce 😰
