Can't tell that from a traceroute.Interesting, so XGS-PON in Shrewsbury bypasses Telford and the Wolves core.
Unless that nrwh dns is in one of those locations.

latency is higher via VM than OR.
Thanks for sharing. Can I ask where you bought it? was easy to configure? So my WAS-110 arrived yesterday, and my LC/ACP to SC/APC adapter arrived today, which has ultimately meant I've been able to have a play this evening to get it all set up.
Very very excited (techy for you) to have it all up and working! No more Hub 5x. Nice to see Unifi report the correct WAN IP's for a change and do away with the Double NAT'ing!
Well nothing from customs yet but that’s not to say I won’t get a customs invoice in the next week or two will let you know if I do.many thanks guys for your messages, just the last question, any extra expenses for customs? Fiber mall didn't share when I asked. I'm reading your blog @nsmhd many thanks for sharing.
Bit late to the party, but interested to know more about this, specifically re-routing the fibre, is it a relatively easy thing to do? Virgin installed mine in a not so convenient place and it would be great to be able to move it.I've never got it to work, so have lived with double NAT for now.
That said, I did discover the world of WAS-110 over the weekend and have already ordered one - should hopefully arrive in the next two weeks!
I've even re-routed my fibre in anticipation! Virgin would only install in my Living Room, whereas i've ran a new fibre from the outside box to where my comms rack is.
If this for a possible alternative to the WAS-110 then the reason it gets used is there is custom firmware that allows the information sent to the OLT to be changed. If the TP-Link ONT doesn't allow this (or can't be made to do this somehow) then my understanding is the WAS-110 is the only option stillI think it's tp link has released a xgs ont recently? I believe.
That isn't true, dude. The length of the fibre won't make any appreciable difference to the light levels. In regards to moving the fibre there are fibre extension cables you can buy but you will need to watch the signal light levels depending on the length.
In most cases yes your right but just wanted to put that caveat in that you need to watch the light levels don’t go too low. That isn't true, dude. The length of the fibre won't make any appreciable difference to the light levels.
Even if you put a coupler with a 100m SM Fibre to move your kit you'll be fine. Nothing to worry aboutIn most cases yes your right but just wanted to put that caveat in that you need to watch the light levels don’t go too low.
Adaptors/ couplers can introduce some loss.
Actually should have mentioned how clean the fibre is as I manged to shave -4Db off mine by cleaning the fibre at all the joints as they were dirty and not cleaned by the installers.
Missed this. Almost always no, this is the equivalent in Openreach world of the first hop that responds to your traceroute. You'll almost certainly go through other sites on your way to that first hop you just don't see it in your traceroute as the connection is encapsulated until it hits the BNG. Think BT/EE/Plusnet are the only ones that terminate connections in the exchange, everyone else sends them to their datacentres and collects subscribers up in those so they travel in PPP or Ethernet until they land at the BRAS / BNG.Apologies for the random question, but how can you tell what exchange you're going through with the 4 letter word before core? Just interested personally.
Traceroute to 1.1.1.1 (keeping in mind I'm fairly sure the modem would be a Hub 5x possibly (not at home and I'm in a VM FTTP area atm) shows "azte-core-2a..." for me.
