Modem/Router suggestions for ADSLMax

I'm currently with Pipex and am going to phone them today for my MAC number so I can go elsewhere for ADSLMax. But I'm not sure if this cheap Speedtouch USB modem I have is ok for a faster connection, so I was thinking of upgrading. All I want is a solid modem/router that gives full details on my connection (attentuation ect) a ta decent price. Suggestions?

If You Have A Speed Touch Usb Modem This May Carry A Speed Of Up To 4 Meg But Will Not Carry Over This My Advice Is To Get Your Self An Ether Net Router As Most Of These Will Carry Up To 8 Meg, I Have An Old Voyager 2100 That Has Never Given Me A Days Trouble Since I Bought It Over 3 Years Ago.

i have a speedtouch 330 modem which can handle over 4mb connection but u have to load differenet software from the instalation disk or download software from speed touch web site at www.speedtouch.co.uk

but as far as the voyager 2100 is concerned i know a few people who use it and swear by it ( not at it ) but try the speed touch first and this will give u time to research router/modems

Speedtouch have added a High Speed driver (to 8Mb/s) at this link;

http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/330.asp

Make sure you get the High Speed one.

Works for me ........... :D

Also make sure that you have a USB port on the PC that is able to do that kind of data throughput if you have a older PC find out what the USB type is.

Good advice MoM, both Speedtouch and myself should have pointed that out!!
USB2 not USB1.

dont get a speedtouch 330 USB modem, they suck badly at higher speeds

as for a recommendation, I say get a belkin 7633 ADSL/2+ wireless router, they are the mongrels love spuds :D

with the newer drivers i couldnt get beyond 6Mb, and, Im not the only one, you should see the bulldog forums on ADSLGuide concerning them, they are not liked at all..

so you must be a rarity

No, I don't think so. But I have this theory ...... that these people who jump in when you are trying to save someone some money, saying 'dump it, get a router', are the ones still trying to justify to themselves (or more likely the missus) spending a fortune when it wasn't really necessary!! :D

i think not..

I dont have to justify nothing, and as for a fortune, the belkin is one of the cheaper ones, if I was trying what you say I would have said draytek 2900VG ;)

now thats a ridiculous price..

I stand by what I said about the 330, I owned 1 too, ditched it as fast as possible as it was the worst p.o.s. ive ever used :D

you must whisper sweet nothings to yours..

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the new driver when I get ADSLMax and if that doesn't work I'll go for a router.

I just phoned Pipex to ask for my MAC number so I can move to a ADSLMax provider. Since Pipex aren't currently allowing regrades to ADSLMax. To my suprise they offered to put in a regrade to ADSLMax manually for me. Unfortunately it was under the condition that I sign a new 12 month contract, which I wasn't so sure about so I declined, for now.

I just thought I'd post this incase anyone here is on Pipex and wanting ADSLMax. Oh and BTW the support was absolutely first class, something I didn't expect from Pipex (from the last time I phoned them a year ago).

I have a Netgear DG834G v2 and it seems very stable even at low snr rates. I'm sure it can handle 8MB but unfortunately for me I can only get 4:crap:

The Draytek 2900 isnt a ADSL router just a router you mean the 2800 or the 2500? :P

I have a BT Wireless Modem / Router, had it for over a year, never missed a beat, well pleased with it.

I cannot recall the last time it dropped a connection...syncs at 8MB on Plusnet, getting speeds of around 5500 at the mo'...early days in the 10 day thingy.
