MOHAA through game spy

anyone here playing mohaa, thing is when ever i play after about 10mins i start to warp, i check my ping and its well bellow 200 all the time
using ISDN @ 64k no difference with 128k,
any suggestions

I play MOH, I have found that in big games (8+ players) my ping goes bad. It seems ISDN can't cope with the extra bandwidth demands when lots of people play. Cable/DSL people all keep their nice 40 pings :( .

Oh how I hate being stuck on narrow band

Same problem here. Everything was fine in the beginning when the game was first out but now with servers getting very busy my ISDN just couldnt cope. Only consolation for me is that NTL have at last decided to upgrade my area so next tuesday I am getting that fitted. Mohaa got so bad for me that I have already cancelled my ISDN and ISP so for 1 week I have no internet (at work now) which is keeping the wife happy.

BTW I used lots of different ISPS in th end and was using their 0845 numbers but still no luck.

so it isnt just me then....dont have any problems with RTCW and REDFACTION, shame really cause MOHAA is a wicked game

surely that cant be ,can it, if it was down to bandwidth connecting at 128 would do the trick wouldnt it

i have tried 128 and didnt make any difference at all. No idea why but have read on these and other boards that when it comes to gaming there isnt any difference between 128 or 64. It is a pain as it is a great game and I had given up CS for it, well nearly but I guess this is going to be the future of it. Better online games will require broadband.

Strange... meh just played a 12 player game of C&C Renegade, which is notoriously laggy. With no probs! (On 56k) Small bit of lag when a new player entered but that was it!!! What really gets me is, that moh is based on Q3!!!!!!! which can run LOADS AND LOADS of players even on 56k!

Also all the new on-line games i've seen will work on 56k, even earth and beyond (which looks seriously cool btw) The only issue, is that games which you play not on a dedicated server, but on someones PC directly requires that the host PC have a fast CPU, lots of memory, and of course at least ADSL or cable. And another issure is that everyone playing the game, really needs to have a good ping, as games like C&C really freak out if one person starts to lag, ruining it for everyone :( maybe you should try different servers??? I use Blueyonder ones, seem s**t fast! compared to BW or Jolt... Give it a shot!

Hang on... wtf! if RTCW is OK, the Moh should be!!! they use the same engine! and 128 bandwidth should be plentiful :p

Thats cos games dont use the extra bandwidth, unless u are the host. The ping is exactly the same on 64 and 128. Use 128 for downloading as that uses the bandwidth, thus speeding up your download. Games send very little data in comparison, thus do not need lots of bandwidth, as its essentially wasted :) hope it makes sense now!!!

But like I said, if you are actually hosting the game, then u need the 128 or higher :)

FYI:
Just got meh copy of the Jedi Knight Game, Jedi Outcast. Supports 32 players on 56k

Again same engine as Hohaa, so defo try better servers!!!

found something out about MOHAA, it averages out the pings so if someone joins with a large ping it will alter the game to suit i've heard and so cause people with a low ping to ,although u wont see it when u look at ur ping suffer

I also found out somethin, now apparently the games server or host needs to have lots of UPLOAD bandwidth. And the scary thing is not even ADSL is sufficient in lots of cases!!! So although the HOST pc sees no lag, everyone else does, because their PC's arent recieving the games data (IE People position etc etc) However with games like Daoc (HAVE dedicated servers) thus have no problems with 1000's of players online. As the servers can push data around the network very fast.

In a word the HOST PC or SERVER PC has to have good upload speed, EG: C&C Renegade recomends and ADSL host only have 4-8 Players!! MAX even though that PC can participate along side 56k users in a 32 player games on a good server.

I am now experiencing the game without lag as thankfully NTL upgraded my street so I am now on cable - thankgod all my friends had ADSL and I felt left out. Now get pings of 20-50 (sometimes higher but rare so far) and that is on the same servers when I used to use ISDN (ping 250) Jolt, BY, BW.

u should now beable to kick some ass big style,i got used to lag with the 56k modem in many games now i got isdn i kickass major league, cant wait till i get adsl

lol, a ping of 250 on ISDN does not sound right to meh!
