Morecambe fttp

did you get sorted? our pole is still the only one in the area not done :(
Left sky, Joined BT will be active on the 5th, Seems like the gear in the exchange can't handle capacity for growing gigafast customers .... This is what an OR engineer told me, So i left without penalty

openreach turned up today, checking the ducts for blockages, (strange as morrisons telecom and virgin have used them). apparently they are back tomorrow for more prep work which includes running a cable from top of battismore to schoa green for the last 4 poles, so looks like by the end of sept i will be able to order as told the other day

did the bt switch go ok? you getting full speed now?

The switch was perfect, Running tests on my phone with fast.com and Speedtest.net and others. I get 835 - 880 mbps down and 110mbps up.

Over wired connections I get 930mbps and 110up.

Considering they are using BT’s gear clearly something was wrong with SKY’s piggyback servers as nothing from my home to the exchange has changed.

Only was an active line transfer

Good news the new connection is performing well 👍

Probably just a colloquialism- but strictly speaking - the FTTP network up to the exchange is purely Openreach - as distinct from “BT” (Retail or Wholesale). It’s effectively a transparent pipe from the serving/handover/headend exchange to your place.

Sky’s own backhaul (connectivity to their own network and henceforth to the internet) is connected directly to the L2S/OLT gear in the said exchange and directly then to your place.

This is the same process and equivalence for all ISPs on the Openreach network whether it’s Sky, BT etc etc.

if everything is good now then it’s likely there was a pinch-point somewhere in Sky’s backhaul or own core network. No piggyback stuff going on.

Openreach engineer must've been drunk talking about piggyback stuff then. :D ... Thanks Pheasant

well i gave up waiting for openreach, gone with virgin, orderd monday tuesday after exiting bt contract penalty free, turned up when we wernt in yesterday and did the external works (new style which goes from the pole), now need to wait until the 27 for internal works to be done, will be 7 days without internet haha, 500meg for 35 quid with no setup fee. £12 less than im paying bt now for 32meg

well finally got virgin installed yesterday, kind of, problem with next doors meaning they are connected to ours tempuntil there new line (3 weeks ago it was put in) is fixed. all working as it should though, finally no more 36meg speed, got 500 now. i have been watching how quick openreach are doing heysham, rolling out at lightning speed

How's the ping times?, Glad you've got the speed you wanted!. This fourm post has been fun :D

Hi , I've seen I can now get fttp here on Gringley road . Wish I hadn't got Virgin's gig a few months back now . But I do get around 940 down and 52 up so can't complain. But in 2024 I'll for sure be going to the fttp.

Openreach FTTP, (BT) Never falls below 930 even through peak times, I get about 720 - 800 on WiFi,

Just a brief comparison between VM and GPON
