My favourite cell has gone missing! How do I find out what happened to it?

I’ve been locking onto an EE cell (PCI 112,3350, cell number 6739975, eNB ID 26328), which has been giving me my best speeds out in the wilds of North Yorkshire, but a few days ago it started to fade and eventually I had to move my ZTE MC888 to a different position to get a reasonable signal of any of the bands on this particular mast. This morning I tried to lock onto 112,3350 and it just doesn’t seem to be there.
I’d really appreciate any help in finding out what’s happened to this cell, it’s a Scancom EE SIM, so I can’t ask EE. Can I? Will Scancom be able to help?

Well that’s odd - it’s come back. I was locked onto the next best cell, and at 7am it started aggregating, and one of the bands it aggregated with was the missing cell. I’d still like some insight into what could be going on though - there’s definitely some funny business going on at this site, but EE service status says everything is ok.

The carriers are increasingly puting certain bands to sleep during the night to save pennies Evanz, it might be related to that.🤷‍♂️

Might not be that, but perhaps worth a mention.

I have band 32 turned off on my mast from 1am to 6am every night.

Anyway, glad it seems to be working again for you now. (y)

Hi Wee Bear. I wondered about that, they have been stopping aggregation on that band, from that cell, until 7am for a while, but it’s never just disappeared like it did this morning. This mobile broadband malarkey is driving me bonkers, it’s non stop bloody tweaking and faffing!

I am not an expert but have visted quiet a few cell sites, the engineers tend to have what they call patches or locations to which they travel to. One thing that struck me was the amount of gear taken out of service needing upgrade, when inside the tower site heat control is one issue it might be that when the equipment gets hottter it may reduce power. Another but very expensive possibility because it requires a partial shut down of the tower is if the antenna is re positioned on the tower.

Thanks g4xcp. Something’s definitely been going on there. When this started happening, I checked the EE website for service status for my postcode, and it consistently said everything was normal, but today when I checked, it said they’d just fixed a problem in the area.
