I have Vodafone 40/10 FTTC service on my main line but have suffered dropouts etc recently, funnily enough since g.fast went live on cabinet 67 in Tamworth, so as Vodafone don't offer g.fast and I'm stuck in contract with them (13 months left) I've had a second line put in, gfast 160/30 courtesy of Zen Internet, if matters don't improve I'll have to look at shelling out ££££ on FTTPoD. My memory of the VDSL2/FTTC killing the ADSL connection is still fresh in my mind!
I had my second line g.fast install today, openreach operative put in a new drop wire (only 1 pair in existing drop wire) and moved my existing Vdsl2 master socket, (he didn't have to do this, but as the wall the master socket was mounted to is about to be removed he happily agreed) he was very helpful, apparently they are told that as they are providing a premium service they are given the time to do so to the customers full satisfaction, I doubt any subbies are allowed to do these installs just yet!
After getting a colleague to assist him with running the new drop wire over the road to the pole and connecting the wires in the cab he wasn't happy with the results his tester was giving him and was back and forth between the cabinet, DP (up a pole) and my new master socket until he was happy.
Openreach happily supplied me with their Huawei modem, which works well for me as it links to the WAN2 port on my Draytek router (I declined the offer from Zen of their FritzBox router, which doesn't have a g.fast modem included).
Speed wise I can't get into the Openreach supplied modem to check my line stats but I have been assured I'm getting the full 160/30 I'm paying for, any comments onwards are only based on what I see now.
I'm still tweaking the load balance settings on my Draytek router but with vdsl2 unplugged and only the g.fast modem connected to WAN2 I'm getting 32M down and 27M up, hopefully DLM will get things straight within a few days and my download will go up.
