"My Three" Account pages

Third time I have had to "top up" our broadband in the last couple of weeks (just humour that) and the "My 3" thing is like trying to watch YouTube on Virgin Media cable at the moment (ho ho).

Plenty of bandwidth - well, actually, it's quite slow, not even getting past 7Meg down, but that's not rare, pings are 30 to 50ms and everything else is working OK.

But the My 3 pages are worse than dialup. It's like they're hosted on an ADSL connection somewhere in rural New Zealand.

It's so slow, and so bad, I can't even get to the payment pages.

Has been like this for a while now. Last time I persevered and after about 20 minutes I got it to work in the end.

Is it like this for anyone else?

Mark I assume you mean their My3 page that you get when connecting via the Mobile Broadband link? As opposed to the less useful My3 page you get when logging in with a mobile number and password via a fixed line connection.

If so then I've found exactly the same problem and my wife had it even worse on her iPhone, which didn't even get automatically re-directed to the correct page (without an IT capable husband she'd be in trouble hehe). I often find that the page stalls while at about 15% of loading, while other times it's incredibly slow, but once you do get the main My3 page up it seems to work ok after that.

I usually get around this problem by making sure that my Android browser is set to 'Desktop' mode and then tap the refresh button a couple times, pausing for a moment in-between, and that usually brings it up faster. I also make sure to have the full My3 homepage URL ready in my bookmarks instead of waiting for the re-direct.

Yes, that's the one. It has been getting steadily worse. All that's needed is - go the link, choose top up, use card, pick card, type in 3 digit number, next, Visa authentication and all done. Should take 30 seconds. These days you're lucky to complete it within 10 minutes. The redirect you speak of is pitiably slow, and every "Next" click takes a few minutes. I shall contact them..

what time do you usually use it? l always found this when accessing at peak usage and daytimes, outside of that when l was on mobile net the connection was usually rock solid and pretty fast.

Basically, whenever it runs out... can be at any time.

The service is our "home broadband" (wireless router, works just like cable, except very much slower!)

We can have a contract - 15GB for 24 months, but we use 25GB/mo+ because it's wired up as a home network and our Smart TV connects to it to watch e.g. Netflix, Acetrax, iPlayer.

On that contract the price is extortionate because the charges become punitive as soon as you go over 15GB which is of course what the ISP wants you to do, and I know we would.

So it's on PAYG which is £25 per 7GB block - we use four or five of those a month - and I top it up when it needs it, which can be at any random time - when the 7GB runs out it just stops working, no punitive charges.

Normally takes 30 seconds but is becoming near impossible, I got it to work last night after about an hour.

It is only the My3 thing which is pants. The connection is fine otherwise.

Yes it's not an issue with the actual mobile broadband connection but seems to be something more related to their website and its automatic identification of the customers device / smartphone / modem. Just seems to stall when everything else works fine.

you know, with 3 you can get them to cap the bandwidth to make sure you dont overspend, when l wasnt able to get a fixed line before we moved into town l was forced to use mobile net in order to stay online.. paid £15 a month for 15GB we capped the spend to £15 only meaning if we went over we wouldnt be able to access anything other than the 3 website and add a bolt-on to last the rest of the month, shouldnt be any different now than four years back when l was having to rely on it for access to the net, tho the only thing that may have changed l guess is network coverage, signal was low back then but it was still faster than l currently get with ADSL, that being said on monday (if all goes well and the engineer shows up) l should be on FTTC.

When the thing runs out it brings up a page 'You have run out of credit' and says for PAYG you can top up, for monthly, wait until your next month's allowance kicks in. Which would be a bit of a problem as it would run out half way through the month.

I did ask them about capping and having a 15GB contract that "just stops working" at 15GB and was told no such thing exists, and I believe they insist on DD payment with little notification of what would be a random monthly amount which could add up to hundreds. Perhaps I shall ask again.

I thought about having two SIMs and swapping them half way through the month but it's getting silly now.

We're returning to our idea of moving home again largely because of the broadband and I don't really want two 24 month contracts if we end up somewhere cabled, which is the plan.

On the other hand another house in this village we'd like has just come on the market - which would be beautiful but leave us stuck on this 3G thing, we can't use ADSL here as it's only 2Meg.. ADSL speeds are even worse a mile away where the house is - 0.5Meg is normal. Decisions...
