My Virgin Media XGS-PON Installation (Hub 5x)

I’ve already posted this on Reddit but thought this community might find it interesting

When I ordered Virgin Media and found out it was an XGS-PON installation I couldn't find much info or photos of how it was done or even what the new Hub 5x looked like, so I decided to write a little article on my installation with dates and time frames

https://d3v0ps.cloud/2023/09/20/virgin-media-xgs-pon-installation

if there is any more information you would like to know just let me know

I do find it strange how VM's upload on a gig package is limited to 110Mb, and expecially so when it's a pure fibre line and not a coax connection (as I understand it docsis means it'll never be a symmetric connection but would assume this only applies to coax). Unless they're just trying to keep uniformity of their packages regardless of how it's terminated, I'm not sure.

The uniformity point is very valid on the broadband side, but then if you have XGS-PON you can’t get the normal VM TV service so they already have to differentiate there.

i worry they won’t go symmetrical as it’ll be a long time before openreach can offer it.

OR won't because EAD exists.

I guess with the change in technologies there will be some difference but eventually they will provide equivalent services
