My Xiaomi 12 Lite is already dead

Welp. That was short lived, cut off by a badly made software update and back to Amazon it goes. The nothing phone sparks my interest, is it supported by 4G Calling and WiFi Calling on Three and Vodafone? Three being more important.

It was only a few days ago you were praising it!

My mother's Redmi has been acting up more and more over the last week, so when Amazon had the Flip3 on sale she picked one of them up. Not to be outdone, I obviously had to immediately order a Flip4, I can't have my mother having a fancier phone than me!

The Nothing phone seems a bit pricey to me for what it is, especially for a relatively unknown brand.

Not that I would be very interested in Xiaomi anymore but the Mi 10T was certainly a badass mamajamma when I used it as my tester.

I guess I will be avoiding for future 'potential' test phones.
I had that phone too JP before I got my Moto G200 5G, it was a great wee phone.

I think Bubbles had it too at one point.

The Mi10 runs great, especially with the ArrowOS firmware, solid phone, a great mifi when we travel and at home with ethernet tethering.
I'm never buying phones that are not well supported by 3rd party firmware.

Bit of a shame as I was looking at the 12 Lite :/ I guess I'll stay away.

Volte and vowifi supported on O2, so should just work on voda and three
WiFi Calling on my Oneplus Nord, at least with Smarty, has been rather iffy. It's not officially supported, so I can't really complain!

Sometimes it works, sometimes it just doesn't! One minute I have the WiFi Calling symbol on the screen, the next minute I don't and I'm missing phone calls.

Luckily the only person that actually phones me is my boss, so if I miss that call I'm not too fussed!

What's the Oneplus Nord range like?

I have the original Nord, but I've been overall impressed with it. From what I've read of reviews, the newer ones seem to be quite good as well.

Honestly, my favourite feature is the alert slider, so I can quickly switch it to silent or vibrate when it's in my pocket. It's something I didn't realise I missed from my iPhone 3Gs back in the day. And, when my flippy boi comes tomorrow I'm sure I'll miss it again!

The biggest drawback is going to be software soon when they fully abandon OxygenOS and switch to Oppo's Colo(u)rOS. OxygenOS was always one of the biggest selling points of Oneplus (after they moved away from CyanogenMod)

Think NothingOS is meant to be similar, i like the stock look and the effort they put into making it as smooth to use as possible. I appreciate a nice UI a lot.

Nothing for something - not a good deal!

Ouch, that's quite unlucky. I was always under the impression Xiaomi's were pretty good quality for what they were. The old man has had a Redmi for going on two years now and it seems to be doing alright. Good thing you've been able to return it.

The best way to avoid issues with volte, wifi calling, etc, is to buy a phone directly from the network. No excuses if it doesn't work.

About "Nothing", their focus seems to be more on the "experience" than on things like software updates. Not a problem for most, but we should keep in mind that they're not Samsung, Google, OnePlus, etc. For now it's a niche brand with a niche product.

If you're not going to do anything advanced with Android, maybe an iPhone could also be a good choice? It's not for me, but an iPhone 12 from 2 years ago gives you 5G, still another 3 years of support to go, and wifi calling should work fine.

Regarding Xiaomi, I don't know if it's because they're more mainstream now in the west now, but I feel that their cheaper phones are having more failures now? Some have widespread issues. See the Poco X3 Pro/NFC which had a PMIC/motherboard failure on many devices, for example. Mine was working fine for ~3 months, then I gave it to my mother (restored everything to stock MIUI, locked it, etc) and the sound died after less than a month.

Their flagships might be better, but the mid/low-end devices are like the fast food of mobile phones. I only buy them for the price/hardware/custom ROM support.
