Namesco TVMax

I have subscribed the TVMax service at Namesco which offers an 8MB adsl connection and a netgem Iplayer (which is a network capable freeview decoder and hard drive recorder all in one).

The deal looked good in principal but unfortunately there is a current problem with the Iplayer which renders it pretty much unusable as a hard drive recorder. Because of the problem the hard drive has to be reformatted every couple of weeks, losing all recordings in the process.

There is a setup charge for this service and an 18month contract. I thought Namesco may be a bit reasonable about the contract, given that there is a problem with the product they provide but no. Here is a copy of their reply to my latest email.

"Hello **********,

From looking at your support history history the problem you are referring to is known and you have been informed that the manufacturer of the iPlayer hardware is working on an update to resolve this problem.

If you do wish to cease the contract then you will be required to pay the cancellation charges that are associated with doing so. This would stand at £58.75 inc VAT plus 50% of the outstanding contract, as stated in the terms and conditions of service.

Kind Regards,

Andrew McKenzie"

Cheers

why post that here?

and bit unfaire to the namesco staff to post his name in public since i guess it was a private email.

Do they supply the KY Jelly or do you have to buy your own

Geez !

I honestly cant believe that you put this as a complaint !

Firstly, you know the terms and conditions, the things that you agreed to when you first signed up - well they are there for a reason. If you dont bother reading them, then thats your own fault.

I am on the same service as you.

I have the same equipment.

What do you mean by 'renders useless and needs to be reformatted'

Do you know what your on about ?

...........
What do you mean by 'renders useless and needs to be reformatted'

Do you know what your on about ?

I have to ask....Do you know what you are 'on about'...?....I see no mention of 'renders useless and needs to be reformatted'...in the complaint posted.....

I do see ...
"....problem with the Iplayer which renders it pretty much unusable as a hard drive recorder."
and
"Because of the problem the hard drive has to be reformatted every couple of weeks, losing all recordings in the process."
Which is quite possible if the software/hardware corrupts any system critical data on the hard drive during a copying attempt.

Agreed ...it is bad form to post the name of the sender of the e-mail...and I agree one should read the T&C's of any contract prior to sign up....but it is equally bad form to question anothers' level of competancy using what you THOUGHT was written as the yardstick instead of the words ACTUALLY penned.

He said unusable as a hard drive recorder.

Yes I may of used a different word.

Perhaps you would like to try

www.thesaurus.com

The fact of the matter still remains.

www.names.co.uk - do not make the iPlayer. Its manufactured by NetGem.
I was asking, as he doesnt actually state the exact problem that he is having with it.

What was said was

'Because of the problem the hard drive has to be reformatted every couple of weeks, losing all recordings in the process.'

Ok - so tell us - what is 'THE PROBLEM'

If you want to flame me - then by all means carry on - this clearly shows that you do not read either ! The reason I was asking, was because I possibly have a fix for him, for an already known issue on the NetGem iPlayer, which is due to the live automated recordings which the iPlayer completes on the current shown channel, and for which there is already a downloadable fix, if you connect your iPlayer to the internet.

Geez - get a life !
