(not sure if l will get much help here with this but worth the ask none the less)

Im currently running an Athlon II X2 250, and wish to get a new heatsink..

basically lm looking for something with pretty good cooling but at a reasonable price (tho l would be interested to know about other interesting coolers)

tbh my temps arent exactly bad, however my reasons behind wanting a new cooler is for possible future upgrades so having a heatsink that does a good job would be useful, also its more something of interest (ppl have wasted money on hardware less :p)

so in essence lm looking for something with impressive cooling (as compared to stock AMD heatsinks, my original one was crap currently using an AMD heatsink rated for higher chips but as l said lm interested to see how much l can change the temps as well as open space for upgrades)

in any case recommendations would be extremely appreciated along with some reviews or at least accounts of usage by users here.

lm actually looking at one or two heatsinks that use 120mil fans, some overclocker types.. not because l wanna overclock but more because l wanna upgrade some day and have a lean mean heatsink cooling machine... that l can use for a few upgrades lol.

I have an OCZ Vanguisher; it works quite well and is quiet. A bit HUGE though!!

I scrapped off the supplied compound and used Cool Laboratory Liquid MetalPad instead; it keeps my 550BE at about 38-40C most of the time, going to 48-50 when gaming.
My old Athlon X2 5400 using the same heatsink ran at about 34C

I hope to get the temp even lower with some better case cooling though, I suspect the heat build-up is caused by my GFX card, which is hitting 70C under load.

Kitchen?
Kitchen?
Did I mention the kitchen?

Never set foot in the place, my dear chap
I leave the housekeeper to take care of things there - and you don't seriously think I'd leave a valuable antique that cost me all of £1.50 in the Oxfam shop out there where those clumsy servants might damage it, do you?

An old-fashioned posh glass butter dish belongs, of course, on the dining room table, which, being far larger than is necessary for a single person, doubles as a computer table. It's very convenient, avoids all the to-ing and fro-ing at meal times.
Furthermore, the computer would look out of place in the library, and it avoids the possibility of a rebellion in the staff quarters if I tried to implement the alternative option, turning the maid out of her room to take it over as my study and telling her to sleep on the landing.

What do you mean, "I thought you lived in a one bedroomed flat" ?
No, no - some other fellow must have got hold of my log-in details here and be maquerading as me when I'm not looking.
;)

Can't admit to knowing much about AMD chips as I've always avoided them but with heatsinks, and if I'm paying then I tend to always go Zalman. Usually one of the big ones. Never let me down. Something like the CNPS9900A LED.

Not saying it's cheap, nor do I know if it fits. (it does fit a hell of a lot tho and can be moved onto an intel machine)

My own machine has a CNPS9900-NT PWM fitted and I've zero complaints.
