hello i got my ONT installed yesterday by openreach and everything is green on the ONT but i cant obtain a IP via DCHP, i tried PPPOE but it says wrong password which is weird since thats what it says on CUCKOOs website... can anyone help me? i tried 2 different routers of my own and it wont work.

I understood that the login for FTTC and FTTP are different (as for many ISPs). Whilst Cuckoo commend using existing equipment to assist the environment (FTTC) they do not appear currently to publish any FTTP router settings and the instructions imply using their own router. It could be that you don't need any specific settings and/or PPPOE turned off, simply a WAN port.

If they have sold you the service without providing a router themselves then although they may support other models (particularly ISP proprietary) they should be able to provide basic guidance.

If the you have not used the line successfully the ONT will only show connection not necessarily the service from Cuckoo.

so the issue was the ONT was mismatched in the system,?? thats what openreach told us. they are working on fixing it remotely. very weird

Every ONT has a unique serial number which is recorded against the connection, non matching serial number means no connection.

i see, how long will it take for them to change it? i got an email back saying overnight but im not sure :c

Not being funny, but have you power cycled the ONT?

In any event it should not need an ONT swap if it’s not registered on the PON - the serial number just needs to registered correctly. Also if it’s a Nokia ONT hanging off a Huawei OLT in the exchange, the provisioning needs to set up for that.

it is a NOKIA ONT and its probably not using HUAWEI OLT since the fibre just got installed in my area. also i did restart the ONT many times but as OR said they need to fix the ONT remotely so i cant do anything else more;

Installation date for the fiber may well not have any relationship to the OLT we've just gone live on a CFP with Huawei OLT (according to the installation engineer), he swapped to an Huawei (from Nokia) ONT as apparently not mixing ONT & OLT works better when the line length is high)

Surprised he had any Huawei’s left as they’re all supposed to be Nokia now (or possibly Adtran).

First I’ve ever heard about not mixing them due to line length. Can’t understand how that has a bearing - the optics etc are the same, they just change the profile on the OLT to match the ONT.

Openreach prior to being forced to reduced the Huawei estate would only keeping a matching OLT/ONT estate - no longer though.

well i rebooted my ont and router and still not internet:) gotta love openreach. smh

When Openreach installed my FTTP, a Huawei ONT was fitted. This did not work so the engineer made a call and was told in my area/exchange a Nokia ONT should be fitted so he replaced it and it worked. All done on the same visit thankfully.

Keep on to Cuckoo. They may need to get an Openreach engineer to attend to swap the ONT or at least assist the provisioning folk to get it correctly setup and registered.

Have you given them the ONT serial number in case they have the numbers completely wrong instead of just mixed up. Its on a label on the ONT.

did that.

Those Huawei ONT's are extremely reliable and provide one of the best modems. Other than occasional outright failure, I've never seen any issues crop up with these. Plus you can replace them extremely cheaply from eBay.

I was told that the ONT used had to be matched to the equipment at the exchange, which would explain why the Openreach engineer had to go to the trouble of swapping mine over.
