need help with my ont. (fixed) check 2nd page for speedtest with FTTP Cuckoo

I was told that the ONT used had to be matched to the equipment at the exchange, which would explain why the Openreach engineer had to go to the trouble of swapping mine over.
It was once the case. However since Huawei gear has been deprecated due to the government’s limits on how many Huawei devices BT plc are allowed to have - they have been deploying Nokia ONTs where the headed OLT is Huawei. It’s always been technically possible to mix, but it was Openreach preference / policy to run only Huawei or only Nokia - initially before the Huawei ban.

so imma guess someone will have to change my ONT ? or whats up, cos OR said its a mismatch in the system, i dont know what that means
Unfortunately Cuckoo aren’t a signatory to the Ofcom broadband compensation scheme. Otherwise you’d at least get a fiver a day for each day the service activation is delayed from the agreed start date.

holy smokes i got my internet to work via PPPOE, my ping is amazing!! why does it say talktalk tho? im paying Cuckoo?

Happy Monday 😉

Looks like they activated the ONT overnight. That’s a snappy connection - are you based in London?

TalkTalk are providing the wholesale/backhaul for your connection, so it’s their ASN.

its cheaper to resell rather then buy and sell from openreach? i dont know much about buying from isps and stuff. i just wish they could change it to say Cuckoo, which shouldnt be hard right?

It's not a simple binary decision and more nuanced than what is cheapest.

Many ISP find it better in their particular cirmsmances and business model to procure via a wholesaler, like TalkTalk or BT Wholesale rather than directly via Openreach.

They then may decide to procure only some elements, source others elsewhere or use their own resources and capability etc. Then at the other extreme an end-to-end managed service offering can provide an entire platform. Horses for courses.

I wouldn't worry about it. Makes no odds.

Some providers resell from TalkTalk business wholesale and it shows their own service name known as "white label" but they usually charge more for this.

At least Cuckoo has better support than TalkTalk :ROFLMAO:

true! cuckoo does reply fast to emails.

I am in the same as well. My ISP is UnchainedISP as they are using TalkTalk Business backhaul for my G.fast service. Nothing to worry about it. Hey, I am jealous of your FTTP great speed, great ping!

There are two different sorts of "wholesale" offered by a big ISP like TalkTalk:

1. Where the end-user's traffic is delivered to the small ISP via an interconnect. The small ISP terminates it on their own equipment, allocates IP addresses from their own address space, and provides their own routing to the Internet. This is traditional "wholesale" and is what Openreach offer.

2. Where the customer's traffic is terminated within the big ISP's network, using the big ISP's equipment and IP addresses and Internet routing. This is also known as the "reseller" or "white label" model, because the small ISP is really doing nothing other than reselling the big ISP's service. The small ISP doesn't even need a network of their own - just a way to accept orders and collect payments.

It appears that Cuckoo is a type (2) reseller.
