Need occasional access to fast upload speeds - Wareham, Dorset

I'm an event photographer - my website is here: www.rightplacerighttime.co.uk

I'm currently with Zen Internet and although they're not cheap they seem reliable so I'm quite happy with them.

My problem is that I sometimes (maybe every other week) have to upload large amounts of data (typically 2 Gb) to the host of my photo sales system and it often takes over a day to do it. But until I have done that I can't sell any pics and I know I lose sales because of the delay.

I have asked around locally to see if anyone has any sort of direct connection to any backbone service so that I could take a laptop along and get stuff transfered quickly, but to no avail.

I'm not particularly skilled or knowledgable regarding broadband, but I can usually work through things with the help of manuals and the internet, so please bear that in mind with any advice you can offer.

I live in Wareham, Dorset, but could easily travel to Poole or Dorchester if I could find somewhere to get my stuff uploaded.

Suggestions please.

Thanks

Jon

I'm fairly certain that that isn't technically possible.

What I was hoping for was some suggestions as to where I might find some access to somewhere with a fast upload speed that I could use commercially.

Uploads are a bit of a problem for the older generation of broadband technologies but if you can recieve ADSL2+ (WBC) on your line then some ISPs do offer a service that's more technically known as 'Annex M'. This can boost your maximum upload speed, at the cost of download performance, from around 1Mbps (not sure what your speed is now?) to 2.5Mbps. But the first need is to find out about coverage in your area.

Do a check of only your phone number here:

Let us know if BT's ADSL2+ is marked "YES" and what LLU suppliers are present on your line (marked further down the page).

You are on a home package then If you change the package to a business one the upload speed is 832Kbps.

Also both TalkTalk and Easynet (aka - Sky) have unbundled networks in your area, which means that you could benefit from faster upload speeds (around 1Mbps) by, for example, choosing the Sky Broadband Unlimited package. A number of vISPs also deliver services via 'TalkTalks Wholesale' platform that are a lot better quality than that ISPs woeful retail divison, which you always see advertised on TV.

I think Xilo might have some packages based off that platform but I'm not 100% sure. I'm also unsure if TalkTalk's wholesale solution supports Annex M or even whether any ISPs are offering that?

Would there be any downside from switching to TalkTalk or Easynet?

As I said, I'm not terribly immersed in broadband and I guess the reason I have always stuck with Zen is because of the good ratings they get for reliability and customer service. (and my own experience of that (though of course I have nothing to compare with directly))

For example, if I were to move to another ISP which was offering me 832 as a headline figure, might this be affected by contention issues if they were a popular supplier so that I might actually end up worse off at exactly the time I needed the higher speed?

Both Sky and TalkTalk are domestic focused ISPs that cost less but will sadly also deliver a lower quality of service, which is something that TalkTalk in particular has a problem or two with. So there is a trade-off but at the same time you might get a perfect service, there's a gamble involved.

However ISP's that are supplied by TalkTalk are usually a separate thing and as I said before, some of Xilo's packages are based off their service but I'm not 100% sure which so it's hard to offer a comparison.
