lm sure some remember the problems last year l spoke about..

well its just about a year since we moved, and yet again we face the prospect of eviction.. up til recently we could claim housing benefit, but since mum started working they have decided she earns too much, and regardless of how we budged we cant make ends meet with all the bills, hell l even have to help her with my job seekers allowance so she can work because her money just doesnt go far enough.. and l have bills of my own!!

plus my dad well he just doesnt seem healthy enough to work, he has gone from someone who just cant sit down to someone who just doesnt have the energy to get up each day... and lm left thinking.. whats the point, you got teens who get pregnant and get money thrown at them that get more than we do put together, or they throw tax credits at ppl yet admittedly we dont claim them but that would pay the rent if we claimed £90!! only reason we havent done it yet is mum doesnt like using the phone... and we cant afford to phone 0845 numbers.

I don't know much about the tax credits system, so ignore this if I am wrong, but can't you go online through the HMRC or eGov websites to deal with and submit the forms?

heh, been there done that and all it tells us is that they dont care about how much we have to pay out just how much that the household earns.. so even if we are left with £0 after bills and food it doesnt matter because we earn more than their limit..

funny thing is we were told last year that fuel costs would be taken into account because my mother is a carer who travels to clients houses and helps them in their own homes (the laughable part of this is that her company is hired by the council) so if she leaves a job she loves there is a likelihood she will be told no JSA and wont get anything, yet if she continues to work we dont get anything so we will have to go further into debt or just not eat so we can afford the rent.. and the most amusing part about this (dont trip over the sarcasm) is that we have more debt now than we ever did last year... and no amount of ppl saying things can only get better seems to help.

in the past 3 years we lost a car (parents had a freak accident just before xmas and nearly died, or would have if the tree didnt block it from falling the rest of the way), got made redundant, got taken advantage of being paid part time wages for a job that felt full time, got flooded, got sacked for looking at other jobs, got sacked for burglary (which we had no part in and have been ruled out of), one banks frozen, the other hasnt been out of overdraft more than once in 12 months, we now owe more debt to the council as well as water.. and yet my mothers wages are supposed to cover that on their own.. hell adding my JSA into the mix may help but even then l have bills if l loose the internet l cant do job search from home, and why should l have to consider spending "ALL" the money l get on the rent when its supposed to be for me to enable me to look for work? l think my family and l have done an amazing job keeping sane this last 3 years but even that sanity is wearing thin, its just one thing after another.. and its getting to the point of.. why do we even bother?

Sarcasm my foot? the UK is a complete joke as we have jumped from the frying pan in to the fire we vote one" A " hole only to have two more in office i.e Cameron / Clegg? and tonight on the news it is said some tax payers owe up to £1.400 to the taxman because they made errors again we the taxpayers get blamed for their mistakes this seems to be the norm for our Government to say just blame joe public! but when it comes for them to pay back their over claim expense's they too slow to catch a cold:hrmph::smilet:

indeed, we just received a tax letter saying we didnt pay anything in 2005/2006, well obviously we didnt because back then all my parents got a month was little more than £60 she worked for the house and we lived off the redundancy money and thats not taxable..

however you get someone like over the road from us with 1 child.. she gets like £1000 a month (we make nowhere near that even if you put both my job seekers and my mothers wages together) and she still has her housing benefit covered.. yet we make so much less and we get told we cant claim any housing benefit because we earn too much.. and it doesnt seem to matter that after all the bills there is no money left to pay the rent and that isnt taking into account that the water board want £800 for this year and the four months we were here from last year.. we couldnt afford that and sure as hell cant afford the rent.. so this time we might really end up homeless (but this time the council will likely state we made ourselves homeless by not paying our rent.. which we cant afford T_T l thought the reason we were in council housing was because there wasnt any way to go private... affordable housing my a$$)

Working Tax Credit & Child Tax Credit

I don't know much about the tax credits system, so ignore this if I am wrong, but can't you go online through the HMRC or eGov websites to deal with and submit the forms?

The ability to submit a claim online, for Working Tax Credit & Child Tax Credit, (nothing to do with "tax" at all; they are benefits) was discontinued a few years ago due to widespread fraud.

You can check on the TAX CREDITS WEBSITE and use the Tax Credit Questionnaire to see what amounts of Tax Credits you may be entitled to. You then have to request that the relevant forms are posted to you to complete.

I have been receiving Working Tax Credit and its predecessors Family Credit and Working Families Tax Credit continuously for about the last 20 years. The benefit is normally paid directly into one's bank account, four weeks at a time. One has to be at least 25 years old & be working at least 30 hours per week (or at least 16 hours per week if disabled) as an employee OR self-employed, to qualify for Working Tax Credit.

In my case, I am disabled, self-employed & work more than 30 hours per week but don't actually earn anything at all as my costs are presently the same as, or greater than my receipts. However, working for nothing does entitle me to receive the maximum amount of Working Tax Credit (with the extra disability element).

I would urge anyone on a low income or with financial problems, to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with a Citizens Advice Bureaux (don't just turn up) to assess whether they are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to. CAB use a very sophisticated piece of software to do the calculations & can input numerous "what if . . ." scenarios. Ask them what information you need to take along & allow at least one hour for the appointment.

I can get WTC, apparently (according to the website) I am entitled to £0:00 a year!!

the CAB up here is crap, they only have one benefits person and she is a right old fashioned battleaxe!! my parents have seen her a couple of times and she has yet to offer even an ounce of help apart from making my parents feel small.

and our outgoings are more than we earn, but according to the law it doesnt matter how much you have to spend out only how much you earn..
