That brings up the router login box (blank).

When you log in (not sure why the box is blank  ) it uses a shell injection vulnerabilty to copy the router stats file over the router log, then displays the router log so I can check the stats. I use it to get more detailed stats than provided by the UI.

Im on a GT and it doesnt work on this router

That's because on the GT's broadcom chipset you need to excute the adslctl command to view stats ("adslctl --stats" I think). On the G there's a text file. The link above uses the linux 'cat' command to copy the modem stats file to the log (cat /proc/avalance/*modem* > /var/log/messages ).

I know the GT also has the same injection flaw as I adapted it from the one to extract the password on the GT sky routers .

This **Might** work on the GT to display it's password, in the log

I uploaded the new firmware, fortunately you dont lose any settings. There's no noticable difference in performance at all, but i do like to keep things up to date... :)

I think I have spotted one very minor bug, the new firmware may be mis-reporting US line attenuation in the browser interface as it disagrees with (half of) US attenuation from avsar_modem_stats, although I don't know if the previous firmware was any different, I only noticed because I wrote a script to log the stats every minute as my line was playing up the other day.
Unless of course avsar_modem_stats is wrong.

From my log

40375.05 40318.01 DS Line Attenuation: 44 DS Margin: 27 US Line Attenuation: 29 US Margin: 31 CRC: 0 FEC: 0 NCD: 1 CRC: 0 FEC: 0 NCD: 0 CRC: 1 FEC: 0 NCD: 0 CRC: 0 FEC: 0 NCD: 0 RX bytes:670482905 (639.4 Mb) TX bytes:69975618 (66.7 Mb)

from the UI
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 44 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 27 db 31 db

Netgears have been reporting incorrect attenuation for quite a while now, it is, as you say, twice the figure reported by the web interface.

There's another bug in this firmware being reported, namely that it doesn't log loss of sync.
